Considering that's today's, it's disturbingly apropos.
I don't have a problem with people wearing bikinis or even with them wearing them in combat. I have a problem with people wearing bikinis in combat and having those bikinis provide the same stats and protection as a suit of plate armor.

I have half a mind to throw on the darkhold armor set, black bikini, and thug helm to highlight the masochistic tendency we know all tanks have. Then my other half asks me how I'd explain myself if anyone I know saw me in it...
Otherwise, I am probably inclined to go with a bandana, camise, kecks, and a weathered axe for that 1.0 feel.

My starter armor. Unlike most things, it actually looks good on a hyur midlander male.

The problem with this is that... it's the vanity system as a whole. In fact, it doesn't even make sense in the actual game - for example, Warrior's Jackboots have more Defense than Steel Scale Greaves, which makes... no sense at all. On top of that, I doubt the vanity system is so limited that I can't augment my Subligar on my WAR which is just as bad as wearing a bikini.

Aren't they call Mirage prisms? It only looks like that tank is wearing a bikini, they're actually covered head to toe in the heaviest armor money can buy.
Edit: I think I'll go with PLD tiara, foestriker top, foestriker gloves, cavalry trousers, foestriker boots. Just something normal looking for sword and shield.

I read them; they weren't absurd. You brought up high fantasy, so he brought up Tolkien. You equating it to Godwin's Law would actually be Godwin's Law in effect.
