Did this as MNK at 40 - really don't understand the complaint. It took 2 attempts, but that doesn't make it difficult. I don't even recall following any kind of strategy beyond 'kill whatever'. Maybe you're just undergeared/bad? If so, die to it a couple of times - that'll turn on the echo, which stacks - so if you keep dying you'll end up with a massive stat bonus to make up for your abilities.

Can't stand it when people use language like that.
    A Tip.
Don't do it, you sound like bloody idiot and a jackass, topped off with a prick.

The OP had a problem on his BLM. BLM != Monk is it?

See what I did there? Anyone can sounds like a prick and question your intelligence and your ability to read.
Feedback should be positive, perhaps offer advise, which you did later on, sadly it got all marred by your tendency to talk like a typical MMO/WoW/Dota player.

Which is unfortunate because there were good information in your response.

It took me a few weeks of constant dieing to figure out how to beat this. I ended up grinding my Drg to 43 before being able to finally beat it. Along the way I advanced in my GC, and even got better gear for my class. This quest actually helped me realize that I had my Drg setup all wrong. I had to go and get the 10k seal book to reset my stats, get the GC lance for my Drg, and get equipment better suited for damage dealing. I was trying to focus too much on getting the best defense from my gear and not really looking at the stats like strength, dex, critical hit rate, etc. I don't know what is needed for Blm, but look at your primary stats for your class and make sure your gear is the best you can get for it. Stay close to the healer in the instance, and kill all the adds asap. Let the npc's worry about the big guy if there are adds on the screen. They always go for the healer first and as soon as he dies, you all die.

BLM: One Way to do quest,"The Heretic among Us".

I was syn back to 44 and everybody has there way of doing things but here is the way I did it. I used: (1) SLEEP useful tools BLM has; (2) Physick (LVL4 Arcanist); (3) Fire III (BLM); (4) Blizzard III (BLM). Then know how to kite. You will kite the dragon. Next when it begins let the NPC's do the battle against the imposter. You go behind and left and up the hill. Archer will run up the hill your direction to do battle with multiple ads. Using Fir III and Blizzard III BLM take all out. Most likely archer dies. Run back to NPC Tank and heal him full and by that time imposter turns into a dragon. Get ready to start kiting stopping at the tank to get dragon to attack him not BLM. Next another ad will go after healer. Between kitting and using Fire3-Blizzard3 kill that ad. Then BLM uses Physick to heal both NPCs that are still alive. They not me killed the dragon. I became their healer and staying out of dragon's way. Got it first time doing this.

The NPCs are quite incompetent and provide shoddy protection. That archer, however, seems to have pretty good DPS if he can actually survive. Watch the archer and make sure he stays alive. With him around, things die more quickly and have less chance of ending you.

Oh I am sooooo happy I am not the only one having this problem. I tried to do this 5 times last night and was so frustrated by the end of it that I had to just walk away. I've read some of the "tricks" on here and will try this again. But I will say... Making a main storyline quest, one that HAS TO be done this hard for some classes is simply not right. Forcing us to basically "trick" the quest is wrong. So I have to let the NPC do the fight, not my Black Mage? I have to pretty much be a healer and a kite to win a quests. A quest that if I don't do, I'm dead in the water. I have to go level her up more, possibly to lvl 44, when the quest is a lvl 40 quest? I have to go buy gear when I've been doing fates, quests and dungeons just fine with what I have. All so I can do 1 simple quests. This screams broken. It makes me sad...

I have a friend playing BLM who will be hitting this soon, so this was helpful to read.
I don't think my own experience for this quest is relevant (PLD, over-leveled, over-geared, with food) but for pretty much all of the instanced events with NPCs I've noticed that focusing on keeping your allies alive and killing/distracting the adds quickly is the best approach. I was having a ton of trouble with "Big Trouble in Little Ala Mhigo" until I noticed the NPC healer kept going down at the beginning and I focused on keeping aggro off of them and ignoring the main boss until the end.

I'm a level 41 Monk and I've tried taking out the smaller dudes. But I keep failing the quest... I'm actually considering changing my main class and job so I can do this

Most important thing is to keep the NPCs alive. Get cure from CNJ (it's only a lvl 2 spell or something) and spam it on the NPCs. It won't heal for much but it will do the job.

I agree with trying to keep the NPCs alive. However for myself there weren't many options for that as a Dragoon.

It took me 4 times to beat it level-sync'd to 44.

    Attempt 1: Drillemont Died
    Attempt 2: I died (Oops)
    Attempt 3: Drillemont Died
    Attempt 4: Success!

My strategy was to always take out the adds as soon as they appear. The issue that I ran into was, the last add that arrives always killed the NPC Healer, which resulted in Drillemont quickly dying. So at that point it was a race to kill before Drillemont was killed.
