The reason I ask, is because currently on the road to 50, all gear you can wear is within 3 item levels of your current level. For example an ilvl 43 book can be used at level 40. But as far as I know, 3 is the maximum gap between ilvl and character level. Okay AF gear is 5 levels higher, but that's the only exception I'm aware of.
I'm thinking ahead here, but when the level cap goes up, surely there will be some new level appropriate zones and mobs. So as it stands now, you could go to said new zone at level 49 to take on some level 50+ mobs. Let's say level 60 mobs, at 49, you will struggle. Or wait till 50, and go faceroll all the new stuff with your ilvl 100+ gear. I know what I would do. I could see this being a real issue for new players, or anyone not at cap when it's raised.
This is the first game I've played that has item levels, so I'm not sure how other games handled this. To me, with general ignorance as an excuse, the only viable solution is to not being able to wear lvl70 gear until your char is at least level 65 (setting the level cap at 70 for argument's sake). And then when you reach cap, the sky's the limit, like it is now. But again, I see issues with this as well. I'll be pissed if I'm suddenly locked out of all my gear until I reach the cap again.
Any thoughts on how they might handle this?
