Stuff like this makes me sad. 1.0 was legitimately one of the few games that I was just completely taken in by the graphics. People say the zones where cut/pasted, which is true; but the fact that the whole game was completely open world, instead of zoned off into sections, made it so much fun to just wander around and explore.

And those models, man. Especially the animations. No corners where cut there.

Edit: Also upon thinking of 1.0 and it's animations, how good where the cut scenes? Your character didn't just poweralk in a straight line, and then instantly stop and stare lol.

The models were an unfortunate loss, but the cutscenes were understandable.

To make cut scenes like the ones that featured in 1.23 had a HUGE production time. 2.0 had a strict schedule to the most basic cutscenes they could come up with were implemented.
Lots of interesting code was created for the 1.23 cutscenes, one such example was the Coblyns running over a hill, where they coded in a procedural animation set for the coblyn leg animations when running to make sure they all ran at different times/speeds from each other.

Lots of work went into small details in 1.23, but sadly the overall picture was swallowed by time conusming tasks that took far too long to complete (apparently bad development timing/scheduling too)

No careful character planning, animation, framing, post-effect editing, timing, mise en scene, etc. That went into the originals.
2.0 had a slap-dash of "Sure this'll do fine!" which I hope they reconsider in the future, facial animation are the worst when comparing 1.23 > 2.0.

All your character does is /shocked and /yes now. It's like a nodding dog.
