fixed it a bit
1.0 and ARR are not the same game. Sure, ARR is based on 1.0, but they programmed ARR new and not put it on 1.0

Fixing bugs is not a bad thing. If they need the downtime to fix something, then they are correct to take it. Nobody wants to see a game breaking issue go on for days without being addressed.
With that said, it'd be nice to know what they are working on...

Lol you're new, they're trying to fix things in this game that affect 95% of the community and not just you. They'd lose a lot more customers if they didn't fix the instancing, and stuff to do with endgame. Losing you, no problem. Losing all the people at endgame.....big problem. Put this into perspective before you talk, are you new to mmos? Cause literally this is an every mmo on the planet problem eventually, new patch, ooops experimental stuff got put in the patch, hotfix, that effed up the instance servers, hotfix. This is actually quite common, meaning I've seen it at least once in every mmo I've played except maybe XI since it had version updates the size of mammoths, and even then they'd eff stuff. You aren't even paying yet...most of our first free month trial was ACTUALLY spent not being able to log in...because of overwhelming server populations, and yet....they are fixing the game and you complain. The audacity of a person to think that anyone cares.
Oh man, I remember Rift's launch, it really was almost perfect.
I haven't actually ran into a single maintenance window in FF14 yet, I see the warning messages, but I've never been blocked by one, guess I'm just lucky.
Rifts launch was almost perfect? Man I must have been playing a different game then.
What do you want? If this was XI this would be normal since they would normally give us a patch and end up breaking something while players would take selfies with summonerless avatars in Rolenberry that had a depleted health bar. Be glad you're on a NA server and not a Japanese server. They used to have maintenance every Wednesday for their data centres because of over crowding. Yes it sucks that they have been having maintenance more often right now that just happens to go with your time off, but as others have said they just put in a minor patch that had/has some prep coding for the major patch that's coming next month.

Square knew you were signing up and are jealous of your abilities. They stuck it to you by performing maintenance on the times YOU SPECIFICALLY PLAY MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH. They got you good.I started when this game became available on Steam. I tend to avoid mmorpg's at release after numerous bad experiences with other games (the only exception being Rift, which actually nailed its launch), but I figured after 6 months the game would be relatively stabilized. Yet since I started this game, server maintenance and shut downs have been happening every other day, and due to my unusual work hours, they have all managed to coincide with my off times. This is getting old REAL fast and I hope this isn't going to be a regular thing for you.
To put it bluntly, kindly get your $#!^ together or you'll lose this customer before the "free month" is over.
It's a sever. They have to be worked on. Things happen. You need to get right with that.

I guess I'm just used to this from XI. After updates there was usually one normal maintenance to fix things they just accidentally broke, and sometimes another emergency maintenance to fix something that went completely tits up.
At least they actually fix these things right away instead of telling us to live with them until the next update. I'd rather have a little downtime than a major problem.

The real revenue stream from an MMO is through retained subscriptions rather than the frontal purchase. The up front purchases are only decent at launch, but once the game gets down to $10-20, Square is getting less than if they were to have sold you a months sub due to manufacturing fees/retailer cuts/etc.

You just came in at an usually high period of maintenance - do not fear!
I do not play odd-hours, but very very rarely has my playtime been effected, and I've probably played an average of 15-20 hours / week pretty consistently since launch.
