I think you're confusing terms. The setting that let's the character run in any direction instead of strafing IS Legacy controls.It's not that it rotates the camera angle that's the issue, but it changes how my character acts in terms of running in relation to the camera angle. Instead of walking backwards, like I should in legacy settings, my character will turn around and run away like in the character-based settings. I have to unlock and re-lock onto a mob to fix it.
In legacy mode it strafes when locked on to a target. However, there have been times when I have been locked on and the control system just seems to switch. If I experience it again I will do my best to take better notes on what exactly is happening but once I unlocked and re-lock it returns to normal operation. It has only happened since 2.16.
