You are right, the current jobs do unlock new spells via quests. I could be happy with that. However, what class would be the base for Blue Mage then? Maybe Conjurer???
Isn't Blue Mage typically a hybrid job, similar to Red Mage? I could see it branching off from the RDM base class. If that's how SE plans to implement them, at least.

The base class would probably be Fencer, which would split into Red and Blue, using Rapiers as a weapon.

Now, they *could* turn BLU into a tank job. Many abilities would be learned via quest as you said (white wind, mighty guard, whatever). However, their twist could be to absorb specific enemies abilities to grant a single charge of that ability for the BLU to use. They can then use the learned ability to cast back on the boss.
For instance, during the titan fight, a BLU would want to use "Learn" right before Mountain Buster. The mountain buster damage would be heavily reduced by the "Learn" command. After successfully absorbing an attack via "Learn", another ability "Cast" would activate and allow the BLU to return the attack against Titan. The "Learn" command would be on a cooldown (somewhere between 30s to 2min). It would maybe last 20s or so, and would only activate on certain major abilities.
Not every boss would even need to have abilities that could be used by the BLU. Maybe some attacks may just be absorbed/reduced by the "Learn" command, but don't activate the "Cast" command. Perhaps to make it easier, the BLU could have another ability, "Examine", that would somehow let the BLU know that the monster had a BLU specific ability to absorb.
I mean, I doubt they'll go to the trouble since they would need to start marking every boss ability as BLU specific or not. Then they'd also need to create the assets for a BLU specific version of that ability (although, hopefully they could keep the effects *mostly* the same, just scaled down to fit the BLU). So that's sort of a hinderance. But I think it could make for an interesting twist on a tanking class.

They said the original classes would get their second jobs by the first expansion. They would roll them out over time in patches. The first expansion was supposed to come out 1-2 years after the launch. Okay so we're being impatient, but I get it, I'm bored of these classes, I leveled up sch, and I have blm, but I'm just so curious to see the other jobs since most of the others have no appeal to me. Where are these patches will job roll outs? Ok...how about at least hints, I could live off hints, and concept art for a bit.
On topic, I would love Fencer class (it can have a Epée and a Buckler Shield) and it turns into Red and Blue (feels like pokemon haha). I could more so see BLU as a buffer job a little more with a dd base like arc, and maybe RDM as more of a enfeebler with a basic cure.
I think CNJ should get Geomancer as a 2nd job.
I'm not sure if DRK should go to GLD (yoship's plan to change tanking abilities to dd abilities when soul stone equipped) or WAR
LNC 2nd job? I think call it Dragon Knight, or something else I guess, give it a wyvern, give that wyvern a healing breath to heal the dds that have to stand close to the main mobs.
THM 2nd job I'm not sure of at all. I want to see people's ideas.

I have a remedy for you. When a Live Letter is sanctioned giving you updates on a new class that is coming out; you'll know- you crying over content doesn't ramp up the process. If you are not enjoying yourself because you've completed all content out the cancel sub is right there under the mog station lol. I'd rather they take there time then rush updates such as a new class before its time. When you make a post don't make it in caps, you look like a neanderthal when you do so.

I would love a fencer / red mage - blue mage class/job. I know it would be complicated but i think they should add more tank-classes ... too many dps would make waiting time in df even longer ...
I don't know if you have already talked about it and I'm not an expert of MMORPGs but .. adding a secondary job to existing classes would mean that lots of player would have those new jobs already at maximum level or (if they lift the level cap) with a good deal of skills unlocked already? It wouldn't be that balanced ...

Adding new "jobs" to the existing classes is an simple way to extend current content. (tome farming for AF etc) It also motivate people to grind classes they were not initially interested in for the new job.
Then come expansion time they add new classes (1 job each) and then add the 2nd job 1-2 years down the line.
