10 million because it's rare and useful and because I pulled that number out of my arse. There are no mats for the shirt, really. It's basically a rare drop. And, no, the market determines the price. Always has, always will. My opinion has nothing to do with it. Also, you don't seem to understand what oppurtunity cost is. Yes, if I sell it for profit at 500k, that's profit, technically. If I could've sold it at 5 million, though, it's still more or less a loss.

i do understand what oppurtunity cost is its in that post you quoted. but to look at it as a loss is just silly. i have been playing since day one (or day -8 depens on how you look at it) and very early on you could find ppl selling harpoons for 100k on my server this is obviously an oppurtunity cost, but for any hapoons i sell i would need to factor in that at one time this is what ppl would pay for them and any i sell for less than that i sell at a loss. i think there gonig for like 500 to 3000 now, i think im really not sure at all, so ,with the you look at it, im selling them at a huge loss. and you are right the market does determine price but only when the sellers let it.

No, I'm talking about the current cost, on the current market, and what the item is worth right now. I don't care about what it used to cost. If I sell an item for significantly less than the current market value of that item, I am, in a sense, losing out on money.

but the past market helps move the current market. the only reason harpoons aren't still 100k is because as more ppl got the ranks to make them more were being sold and so to make theirs sell 1st, someone started to sells their harpoons for less, then the next guy, then the next guy, then the next guy until they're at what they are now. so that 1st guy to a willing loss on his harpoons to bring the price down (but not really we maybe talking instead of 5000% profit he'll get 3000% profit). the only real way you lose money is to sell for less than what it cost to make.

Yes, but the old state of the market has no direct bearing on what I price my items at. I don't give a rat's ass what harpoons used to sell at. I care what it cost me to get them and what they sell at now, in that order.

what i see here is our diferent views in profit you see selling a 5 million gil item for 500k as a 4.5 million gil loss while i see selling an item i sold for 500k that cost me 20k to get as a 480k gain. i only care what it cost me to get an item and what i sell it for, in that order.

    I have your perfect fix:

Stop rendering the retainers and switch to a menu/text based interface. You can keep your player-owned shops without needing to have a physical shop.

So, you're telling me that, all else being equal, you'd rather get 480,000 gil profit than you would get 499,980,000 gil profit?
