There's no denying that 1.0 maps were much larger but also very repetitive. (As shown by some posters here)

That said, I personally thought that only Black Shroud had it the worse, due to the player being forced to follow the paths on the map. I enjoyed wandering around Thanalan and Coerthas. And it was nice finding those few special locations. The repetitiveness of the zones made those particular vistas(term stolen from GW2) pop out all the more. Bronze lake looked gorgeous and also the windmills in Coerthas was a sudden nice change in scenery.

We should also mention that 2.0 maps are quite large but we have the luxury of having tons of fast travel methods.

"I need to get to location A"
Pick between 1 or more available or needed options

    - Aetheryte teleport(includes return)
    - Chocobo porter
    - Mounts
    - Sprint
    - Speed buffs(bard, monk)
    - Faster character movement compared to 1.0(characters don't feel as heavy anymore)
    - (Insta-boat travel...)

    1.0 version

    - Teleport(limited to anima)
    - Mount
    - Boat travel(That actually had us riding the boat for a few minutes. I miss those T_T)
......Well that's it trolololo. Combine that with running speed and our characters moving slower(feeling heavier) + massive maps = Very long travel times and impression that maps are huge.

I personally think that the sagolli desert is quite large. Try running that entire map without a chocobo and sprint. You'll see what I mean.

I think the sagoli desert is the best example of a place that's faaaar smaller than it should be.

There are no real point in a huge world in the current FFXIV 2.1.5.
We don't camp and fight mobs the old way, running around a huge map for some aleas is bothersome and the most important fights are instanced dungeons.
After a little while, we would be annoyed to have to run around in a big map with nothing to do in it.
I've read that it is one of the problems of the current Elder Scroll Online, a big huge empty map with very few things to do in it.

I'll admit that the desert portion could be larger. When I first saw the video, I expected the ecquivalent of ffxi altepa desert.

Still, i remember when you could explore the area that's now instanced as "Sastasha", there was a really interesting notorious monster there i wanted to beat even, i've jumped into what is now the thousand maws of toto-rak with an exp group back then too and could just walk in. Basicly all the dungeons were part of the world too and made it super interesting. Now the overworld is nothing more than an alley that takes you from point A across a road to point B. Calamity or not, the world cannot and should not have changed this much.

Yes, Mor Dhona flooded and is mostly now a huge lake. But there were poison pools everywhere back then too, and there's mountains now for no particular reason where there was just open lands before. :/

You can't even call ARR a world, lol. (even though I love it) It's just a bunch of tiny rooms that look like cardboard stage sets. I would take the copy paste world of 1.0 back, it was far more engaging. Either way, it's still a great game. ARR and 1.0 both have a lot to offer, but you can't have everything.

I disagree. You can have everything, its called WoW. Alas it does not have that FF skin on it, so you may be right in that respect (you can't have everything). But really, World of Warcraft does everything this game does but better and has more content, AND the world is seamless and HUGE and completely OPEN. Disregarding the FF skin, why would anyone pay $15 a month for an inferior product?

Expansions will likely add new areas. Be patient, it will come.

I doubt they will support the ps3 as long as 11 supported the ps2 (If that is what your refering to). It was a different time back then and XI started on PS2 which is a different story for the ps3 and XIV. I believe they will drop PS3 support for the game a few years down the line.

Hold on, here's a bat. I'm sure that dead horse is around here somewhere.
