I downloaded it in the hopes it is like the PC beta in that you can use the client for full release lol

They have already included a note in the first PS4 Beta test details announcement that users who participate in Phase one of the Beta will need to download a new client for Phase two.

They have not said if that Phase two version of the client can carry over to early access and official release, but I suspect it can. However, the client we will get this week will not carry over.

And yes the character you use for Phase 1 will not carry over to Phase 2, Phase 2 however that character can be carried over to the final version or you would be able to use your current character.
I am going to let other people test with their current character just in case something goes wrong, lol

That sucks. No keeping characters and no keeping client? May as well just wait then. I dont see many current players joining in on Phase 1. Ive already been playing using the DS4 anyway on PC.
