    There is no difference between the Steam and Retail version
    The game itself has no changes (same with FFXI) it simply becomes a stand-alone game once you've purchased it, just think of Steam as another vendor selling the game keys.

    I'm, confused as to why you're buying a steam copy?

    Pretty much every steam resource except for time-keeping is avaliable to you, simply add the game as a "third party programme" to your steam list and you can take screenshots, contact friends as well as using the steam overlay.

    You're missing out on maybe 1-2 things here. (Unless i'm missing something super critical here)

    All the steam version is doing is providing you with a key to register via the mog-station and the 100MB client download (perhaps it also installs the release candidate too, or 2.1 i'm not sure).

    As for the "But I can download it via steam!"
    You can already download it from their website, it won't be downloading any faster or slower;

    I'm just completley curious as to why you'd buy it a second time for virtually nothing?

    People who are really into Steam also tend to have many games, sometimes hundreds of games, and would rather not be bothered with keeping track of all the individual websites for all their games - they'd rather have all their games via the Steam platform, so when switching computers or redownloading games they deleted previously for HDD space they can just get it all through Steam instead of hunting everything down individually.

    Its as simple as googling;

    FFXIV Client Download

    - Downloading

    - Installing

    - Running.

    I fail to see the "difficulty in managing" websites unless the bearer has incurred brain damage and forgot the phrases "FFXIV, Client and Download".

    Yes steam is a fantastic resource for this, but for FFXIV you would only be downloading the launch client which is already extremely easy to obtain.
