When a female cat is in heat, its tail curves to the side. The male miquo'te's tail does something similar.

Have you ever seen a male miqo'te's tail on a chocobo? It's so stiff it looks like a toy accessory.

I just think it's because Miqo'te males are a bit more active and to show the distinction their tail moves more. I love it personally. Especially their stance, sit animations etc. Miqo'te females are more calm and collected, thus their tail rarely moves...

...that's how I see it anyway :P
