I'd rather have shared personal housing, or it will be kind of lonely. I'm assuming some kind of marriage system will be implemented that way.

I'm trying to figure out how it comes to this every single time? At this point, I'm more on the side of the just-scrap-everything-and-save-yourselves-the-headache-SE side of things.
This is just going to turn out to be an ordeal either way. I don't think that the FFXIV team wants to be the ones to take a stance for the entire company. As the article says, they will monitor player requests, of which Yoshi-P can probably appeal to higher ups to move forward with the decision to do so, but either way, it hasn't even started yet and I'm worn out on it.
Well... "Common" sense isn't all that common anymore, now is it?
What they need to do, to give players something, but avoid any controversy, is just not call it marriage.
Make up some lore about adventuring companions, or warrior pairs dedicated to a god/goddess, or whatever. It's a made up world, surely they can come up with something.
Anyway, make up some lore that ties two people together in a way that doesn't bother people who rail about 'traditional marriage.'
Still, I have no idea why anyone playing a video game involving gods, goddesses, dragons, weapons and a made up world would have a problem with same-sex pixel marriage. *shakes head sadly*
Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.
You were warned.

It's just fantasy marriage.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Like a good stalker, I'm always there.
There would be no headache and no ordeal if they didn't treat it like it was an issue - because it's not. Trion implemented marriage without gender restrictions, and it was never even a question. Not a single ripple was felt. Not one. I actually rather enjoy the marriage system in Rift - fun dimension items and stuff abound!
So again: It's only an issue, because Squeenix decided to pretend it was.
I don't think there should be *any* kind of in-game marriage system.
That stuff can stay RP or whatever.
It would be nice for my husband and I if they do implement an in-game marriage system. I'd really like to get shared housing out of it and maybe the ability to trade U/U items between each other (fat chance, I know, but a girl can dream).
And in all honesty, even if there was in game marriage, if you don't take part in it yourself, then it doesn't affect you.

I thought that's what the chocobo stables were for?
That sounds like a very good idea. Have it be like a pact/oath sanctified by the Twelve.
Interesting article. I was going to jokingly suggest that the marriage system should be like housing - extremely expensive, no in-game benefit, and forces including crafters - but it sounds like that's how it was in FFXI anyway...
Because of lore. If SE says that there aren't same sex marriages in Eorzea, then so be it. I don't see anyone complainig about not being able to roll Empìre, or saying that having the Twelve in the game is an heresy because of [insert religious complaint], or requesting that there should be pink elephants. In the end, it has nothing to do with equality or anyone hating same sex couples. It's as simple as respecting the world and story that SE has created for us, and their own creative vision.
Anyway, if I was them I wouldn't implement it. It would save everyone from headhaches that would undoubtedly happen otherwise.
