All hail our statistician overlords.
Honestly though, it's cheaper than television and I get far more entertainment out of this than watching TV.

i payed like $47 for 6 months...great price for me
Auron: Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
It's less than 50 cents a day. People spend 20 times more money than that on a daily basis without even paying attention (junk food, coffee, etc) and complain about a 14.99 monthly fee for something they use on a regular basis? Managing money well enough to save a spare $15 isn't difficult. It really isn't a lot.
OP never said ffxiv was or should go f2p. You really need to read more before you attack with a fake story just to have something to troll.I seriously doubt XIV will go F2P, just look at SE's other title FFXI...it never went f2p, for a short while FFXI and WoW were the ONLY p2p mmos on the market, SE has the capital financing that most companies don't have and don't have the need to have their mmo IPs go f2p.
12.99 and 14.99 is a good price point for this MMO in my opinion for the quality content SE is making for this game.
I'd rather pay the 15 bucks than have this game be a pay2win game
wait are you serious?Well, a few things.
1) a business can charge what they can get, simple
2) a little more in depth, with the lack of content this game has, I too am beginning to question the $15 subscription fee per month as worth it. Basically being maxxed out on content right now, 2.2 will come out with 3 new bosses in Coil, and Leviathan Primal. So, 4 new boss encounters seems interesting, lets say it lasts 2 months even. The problem is, with 2.3 patch, it will just be Crystal Tower downgrade, so I can probably skip that. So I will have to wait an extra 6 months for new Coil, which leaves a 4 month 'gap' window that I just cant really justify paying a subscription, let alone $15. Also I do not currently see the development I would expect for a game with million users paying monthly fees.
tl;dr content and development seems really lacking for a $15/mo MMO
let's make some recap of the content of the 2.1 and the next to come 2.2 (i don't talk of the 2.15 or 2.16 even if they are already nice small update by themself)
2.1:
- housing (even if the price are high the systeme is there!)
- pvp in arena
- daily tribes (2 faction)
- 1 new dungeon and 2 hard mode dungeon (and they are different of the previous one not just the monster level up)
- Crystal tower (we can argue that it was ready before)
- a lot of balance in the game!
- all the furniture link to the housing added in the crafting, it's pretty huge.
- treasure hunting, it still need work but good one
- story content! (i include hildebrand into it)
- 3 primordial in extreme+ 2 new primordial (ok this one are old fight remake, but remake a fight and balance it can take more than you think!)
- barber for change the look of your character!
2.2 (from what we know)
- 1 new raid, with gear and new boss.
- 1 new tiers of gears at get from a new tomes. (the old one will surely be balanced on how we get them)
- 1 new dungeon and 2 hard dungeon
- 1 new primordial in hard and extreme+mog in extreme mode.
- 2 new tribes for the dailies
- more story content
- more crafting!
- Glamour (vanity system)
- more feature for the fishing, barber and all the stuff they haven't told us yet!
all of this in 7 month... find me any mmorpg in this last 10 years that had as much content right after the release?
- 2 raid
- 6 dungeon
- 4 faction
- 8 new primordial fight
- tons of new system added to the game
please find me something with as much!
if you focus only on endgame and miss the point the game is not only the big raid... then sorry to say this, but maybe a coop game is better for you than a mmorpg. this sort of game have more to offer than simply a bashing of big monster.
Oh my...did we get on the wrong side of the bed this morning?
first of all let's lay off the trolling accusations here, the op said
I took that quote as she/he implied that she thought it would maybe go f2p at some point, which i just said i doubt it would, who knows what might happen in the future...she/he could be right and will go f2p!, or not, if i misinterpreted that quote then i apologize.

I mean, I understand that FFXIV doesn't want to hit the F2P road yet, but why 14,99?
Why doesn't this or any other P2P game apply a lower fee? It's there some market rule out there of which I have not been informed who forces them to have exactly that price?
Wouldn't it be more right 9,99? Or even 7,99?
They are forced Worldwide to not compete against each other or what?
It seems it's either nothing or 14,99. I don't get it.
It's been what, 10 years since Vanilla Wow?
The MMOs changed since then.
Why prices didn't?
There is no doubt in my mind it costs more now then it did ten years ago, so why would the prices go down?
This is kinda like when people hate having to pay $50 for a video game today, when I had to buy the Lion King for the SNES for $60 20 years ago. (Oh God, I am so old.)

Looks like $10-$17
Interesting thing is FFXIV:ARR is at this time tied for 1st hype/rating. At 8.60/10
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
If it changes it will go up not down
