So first off, only areas that relies heavily on dodging are instances and those have 0.1 sec updates, they changed this a few months back to make it easier for those with poorer connections.

Second, there are 2 big differences in many MMO and FFXIV, and that is server side vs client side checks. many stay with client side, which are much easier to manipulate. XIV uses server side, which are very hard to manipulate checks, but are more susceptible to lag issues. other MMO's use them too, they just have less reliance on moving out of hard hitting AOE.

Finally, the I never lag on other MMO but I do in FFXIV, it cant be my ISP is a bunch of crap. The servers are not in the same place, and thus your ISP routs your data a different path, over different nodes and thus lag on one path may be present while it may not be on another. ISPs sometimes change the paths they send, or patches to the game change the data so it gets flagged as peer to peer for a bit adding lag. in these situations you and SE can contact your ISP and get things resolved, but it takes time, and there is no guarantee your ISP will admit to the problem on their end, or if/how long it may take for them to fix said issue. sometimes the issue is a node they route through that isnt in their control and they need the other company to fix it or change the path they send data. most times they wait for the other people to do the work.
