I always thought the story was very old school final fantasy. Some of the music was composed by nobuo.
I'll admit some of the jobs and classes don't have certain abilities, yet. There's no elemental weaknesses and such.

This game was more Final Fantasy than FFXIII at least. It has a coherent setting with a storyline lore that seems to take itself seriously. XIV is chocked full of Final Fantasy cameos and elements. I guess the OP just doesn't read the stuff.
Elemental weakness is missed, but honestly it's a terrible bane of MMO gameplay design, and I for one am estatic that the developers have noticed as such. It's shallow depth at best, and in the dozens of MMO's ive played, the only thing it ever contributes to is a Mage class with like 50 more skills than anyone else, all situational and terribly unbalanced.
They didn't really replace it with anything, but here's hoping that down the line that may be fixed. Umbral Ice / Astral Fire was a great aversion to the Mage class, though.

Since when are classic Final Fantasy open world, PvP oriented and I don't recall any of them having story expansion (except X and XIII)Make Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn more like classic Final Fantasy with MMO elements like open world , PvP Zones and story line expansion and less like a traditional MMO. Also can we get a marriage system and the ability to customize everything about our character in game with the exception of race.
I have no idea where your impression of classic FF came from
I think considering classic Final Fantasy games are single player and this is an MMO the translation has actually gone across quite well. It definitely feels like a Final Fantasy to me (perhaps in some areas more than others) but that's just my opinion.
FF games are about the journey and gathering allies to slay some magical enemy. Fun weapons, magic, and abilities to play with, so yeah pretty much more FFXI than FFXIV.

It is classic. the old black mages had Fire Blizzard and thunder. What do we have now on our black mages? Fire blizzard and thunder...
Of course they are 18 officer, I mean come on, 9 and 9 clearly make 18
The unbelievable, unimpeachable, indispensable, I-can't-believe-able Flim Flam Brothers' Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000
Can't have classic FF without these guys.
Nobuo Uematsu
Was pretty much erased from XIV ARR by Soken
Hironobu Sakaguchi
Left SE because he didn't have creative freedom at SE (lost odyssey is great btw)
Yoshitaka Amano
Was excluded from xiii-3 (though this might be a good thing as according to reviews it's doing even worse than the 1st one)
Don't know what to tell you buddy except recommend FF dimensions and especially the DS III remake. They are good games.

Final Fantasy classic was a solo game and if you want a good feeling of old school final fantasy, get Bravely Default!

Oh my god. Someone actually gets it!
The GCD in this game is also meant to simulate wait times between actions like in console FFs.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
