I just chose to take my time. So while I think Casual Carl should realize that Long-grind Lenny is also playing the way they enjoy, LG Larry needs to realize that CC plays the way they like. Neither side is "right" about how you should play the game, because there's not just one way to play it.
Right, but the problem isn't that either side is pissed at the way the other side plays the game. The problem is that Long-Grind Lenny is pissed because he has nothing to do past monday, and that the Casual Carls of the world have changed the genre that he once fell in love with. I understand where long-grind lenny is coming from. But the problem is there are way more casual carls than long-grind Lennys. AT SOME POINT, Lenny is either going to have to suck it up and enjoy the forest for the trees, or move on. Or I guess the 3rd option is to continue to be salty about it but keep paying, which really doesn't do anything but enforce the game designed for Casual Carl.

Having said all of this... I am i90 BLM with almost a complete 2nd i90 set for itemization, i87SMN, and i86 SCH and WHM. I farm ex primals, and my static does T1-4 in less than 45 min. I have a wife and a full time job. If you ask my friends in game, they'd probably say I play a moderate amount. If you ask my wife shed probably say "him and that damn final fantasy game". Personally, I think the game needs more, but I won't lose sleep over the level of current content. But its probably better for my personal relationships out side of the game that it doesn't have more. Even if Long-Grind Lenny doesn't agree, he may be better off w/o it too.

    It's about time.

NONE of those threads are constructive. If people have suggestions, then make them properly. This forum is filled with, "I have nothing to do but refuse to say I play 4-5 hours a day every day since release".

    It's getting old.

Long-grind Lennys tend to MMO hop looking for that fix, though, while Casual Carl usually sticks with an MMO for a while because the stuff that matters to Lenny doesn't really matter to Carl. If I was SE I would probably cater to Carl as well, given that Carl is going to pay his sub longer. Unfortunately this does create a vicious cycle in which companies cater to casuals because they keep paying and don't realize that Long-grind Larry wouldn't quit if there was more for him to do.

If that was the case all these Casual Carl casual mmos wouldn't be going F2P.

Casual Carl wants everything to be made easy so he can beat the game then move onto the next popular mmo.

Except theres plenty of casual style mmo's that aren't F2P. This, TESO, FFXI (now casual friendly), WoW...

I think F2P is way bigger than casual vs. hardcore, bigger than the MMO genre as a whole. It has less to do with making the game more accessible to casuals, and more to do with opening your product up to as many people as possible to then lure a bigger group into spending money.

I guess SE reached new low with deleting threads with critic and opinions that go against The Great Vision Of Yoshida, who can do no wrong. Just wow.

So what you're saying is that basically, SE is screwed either way. If they make it hard enough to lock out the casuals, they will lose them to another MMO. If they don't make it hard enough, they'll lose the hardcore to another MMO. And even if they did make it harder or have more content, the hardcore crowd would likely still finish it before more content was ready and still unsub, leaving SE with few customers. This is the root of the issue; SE is playing it safe by trying to meet both crowds halfway.

No, F2P MMOs are for Supercasual Stephanie and Cheapskate Chuck. Also Foolish Florence, who spends more money per month of microtransactions than he would with a sub.

I've made suggestions in forums at least in other games on possible solutions for hardcore players but usually it's just met with criticism from the largely casual player base. The general consensus seems to be that they like the game the way it is and if you don't it's your problem. Anything which would be a big enough change to actually keep hardcore players happy they feel is a waste of resources.

For example one idea that I think would be a solution to both play styles is just making servers with different difficulties, upon character creation you had an option of how hard of a server you wanted to play on. Obviously you would have to work things out on specifics but the general idea would be like making FFXI pre-abysea servers in addition to the current FFXI servers.

But if you bring something like this up they just tell you "Those resources could be better used elsewhere." How?!?! What making new content you won't play until years from now because you have so little time you still haven't made level cap?

    7 months not 2 weeks.
