The fortress he is talking about is not Ala Mhigo, Ala Mhigo is in a completely different direction. This fortress seems to be in Coerthas Western Highlands.
I'd rather they finish up the continent around Eorzea(Eorzea is more like Greece than say Europe) rather than adding a whole new continent THEN coming back to the areas nearby in like 5 years like certain other games.
Ah, I didn't know that (I thought it would be 1-2 expansions per year, at least during the early hype, and the maybe 1 every other or third year, until the next Final Fantasy Online). In that case, we need Eorzea to be fully revealed in the first expansion. I just hope it wont feel rushed or too sparse of quests/minigames/whatevers if that's the case.
By the way, does anyone think it possible that we'll get Ishgard+Coerthas in a major patch, instead? Coerthas was in 1.XX and they've teased Ishgard for at least just as long, so it would be a nice gesture.
Well lucky for us the amount of content for Major Updates are still quite big to fill the 2.5 month gap between each Major Update so there is always room for contents like new areas.
However, I doubt we will see new areas unless there is a lore reason in Main Storyline for X.X patch to include a new area due to how content in this game is very lore connected for their release. We already have access to the gate into Ishgard in Coerthas but it remains closed for now.
We may see new areas of Coerthas for Major Updates if they plan to expand more into the Primal Shiva and her Beast Tribes the Giants during Major Updates so they can have 2.X patch set the stage for the opening of Ishgard's gates in 1st Expansion and Shiva's Primal fight.

For those of you who replied to me, I was talking about the castrums, like castrum meridianum, also the one between northern thanalan and mor dhona, the castrum in eastern la noscea, etc.
Once you have completed the main story from 2.0 and defeted ultima weapon that castrum is completely blown up, also all the castrums have been attacked and the garleans drove out in the final missions on the big assualt leading to the final battle of 2.0, my problem is when you go to these areas in open world the castrums are still all filled with garleans as tho nothing has ever happened, its kinda weird.
They physically changed the open world area of revenants toll in 2.1, do you think they might physically change the castrum areas to better reflect the story line in the future? I just dont see how they could considering if you were a new player coming into the game you havent conquered anything yet and the garleans are still there.
<cool FFXIV image here>
They could do like many other games, and utilize phasing.

Sure we defeated the XIVth Legion in Operation Archon, but even then, Raubahn admitted during the ending scene that "even though the Black Wolf is slain, the rest of the pack remains." Hence, those troops and machina you see in the various Castri are just remnant forces of the XIVth Legion (if you paid attention to the dialogue, during Operation Archon the Alliance didn't actually defeat the various Imperial strongholds, all they did was blockade them and prevent their forces from reinforcing Gaius's main force in CM when the Alliance attacked it to destroy the Ultima Weapon. With CM and Gaius gone, these troops are now without a commander, and hence have been basically left to their own devices.)
So yeah, it's perfectly logical for those Imperial troops to still remain in Eorzea even after Gaius's defeat, as they're just remnant forces.
I doubt that SE will ever actually remove those troops from Eorzean soil, as the Empire itself is still around even after Operation Archon after all - there are still 12 other full Imperial legions remaining in Garlemald which could easily renew the assault on Eorzea at any time - the reason they're not is simply because of the Emperor's failing health and the intrigues within the court are more serious matters to attend to.
