I know the players in tech support can't fix anything; however, I will continue to occasionally bump this, because if a thread goes too long with nothing SE moves it to "resolved." This hasn't been resolved, yet.

I've linked this thread in a few places; it wasn't in the FIOS one so I've added it. Thanks.

If you're running through that Montreal server there's really not a lot you can do aside from the afformentioned VPN service, changing your ISP or just waiting it out.

I have pingzapper. I go through Chicago with it, and most of the time it is stable enough. It works better than going through New York anyway. I've never had to use one before, and I'm not happy about it. I'm waiting, but I will keep posting traces anyway. I don't really have a reason to bump without them as it's present everytime I trace; time of day or day of the week has no bearing.

As for ISP, I'm moving soon and there is only one option at my new place. It's a local phone company, and it travels the s ame route as my current Comcast does once it hits Atlanta. I've done traces on it with the same results. I will have no choice then.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Using BattlePing myself, it's cleared up the issue for me entirely - but I'm not overly happy about having to pay for an additional service to play just this one game smoothly either (every other game I own works fine, datacenter location for FFXIV is just terrible).

You know what, pingzapper doesn't even help now... I know I said it helps but dunno what SE or who did what but damn the lag spikes in the last week or two has been horrible. I reset my router, checked that pingzapper is running correctly and routed to different tunnels to see if it'll help if I take a different route to SE's server but nothing is working. I get lag at Revenants Toll & worse lag spikes inside instanced dungeon/primal battles/CT. I contacted pingzapper customer service and they are looking into the matter on their end.

Does anyone know how to check routing after connecting to services like pingzapper? Traceroute only works directly from your PC to the server right? I know VPN will change that but pingzapper is just a proxy so guessing it handles differently, only for that game/program being used for rerouting. The ping rate showing on pingzapper, I'm guessing is from your PC to their routing server.

I don't know how to check pingzapper's route, but that is something I'd like to know as well; I'm not very network savvy. I can recommend staying far away from NewYork2 though, assuming you get the same server options as me. It's been coming back with very frequent ??? when I ping it in pingzapper which I assume is something akin to packetloss. For me Chicago2 is the most stable. I see jumps at all the other northern options.

It used to be fine on Los Angeles 2, then I switched to Chicago 2, then New York 1, but right now everything seems bad ><

I don't mean to change where your hate is directed, but as a player who's experienced this all through 2.1, here's what you should know:
I'm on Verizon FIOS. From what I've seen, we all port through Level3. Level3 gets overloaded and causes packet loss. The only way we can fix this is by calling your ISP, notifying them of the issue and to contact Level3, and/or ask for a different route.
