I would think it's going to be similar to materia melding, with the item you want the stats from acting like a materia being melded to the other item.

They should have just given us a vanity tab that mimics the normal tab (the viewable pieces). That way, if we get a new item we like, it's as simple as throwing it into the vanity slot. If I have to shout for a crafter every time I get a new piece of armor I want to "glamour", I won't bother with the system at all.

They've already said they're not going to do vanity slots on a separate tab. To be honest if you won't use the system simply because it requires some kind of social interaction to use it then I'd guess you were never really interested in it to begin with. Personally I hope it does require DoH in some form as it should serve to boost the economy a bit. I fail to see how it's any different to pay another player to do it compared to paying an NPC to do it for you.
The only thing I ever get melded are the weapons for the Relic quest (And I'll only use the FC or just buy premelded weapons if they're available). And it's not about being "social". I'm social in this game all the time, so you can take out that straw man. The fact is, I only have a few hours to play per day (if that) and I don't want to waste time shouting and waiting for a meld or for glamours. Especially when you're trying to glamour 20+ items for all of your different jobs. Melds aren't bad, as they're only truly required for your relic, but forcing us to shout and wait for a crafter to glamour tons of pieces for us would take all the fun out of the new vanity system. They've already said they're not going to do vanity slots on a separate tab. If crafting is involved, they need to just make it so a crafted item is required for you to do the glamour yourself (or through an NPC). That way, crafters could feel useful without forcing everyone else to jump through annoying hoops.

The problem is that crafters have been wanting to feel useful since the beginning and just melding or making one or two things isn't useful enough. Furnishings is a start but it just doesn't compare to 1.0 where they were the only way to make gear 100% repaired. This is a good step to making them more useful than just cramming small gems into equipment or making that rare piece of gear. The only thing I ever get melded are the weapons for the Relic quest (And I'll only use the FC or just buy premelded weapons if they're available). In a game that allows you to do everything on a single character, crafting is useful due to the simple fact that you can do everything for all of your classes/jobs yourself. You can make your own armor, weapons, food, melds, repairs, etc. Plus, it's another way to help out your friends and FC. Crafting is plenty useful without ruining the vanity system by forcing players to shout and beg for another player to glamour all 20+ of the items they wish to change. The problem is that crafters have been wanting to feel useful since the beginning and just melding or making one or two things isn't useful enough. Besides that, with the sheer quantity of items that people will be glamouring, there's no way it could work like melds. It will either be too pricey for most people to use... "I'll Glamour those 20 items for 10K each!", or it will be so cheap that it won't be worth your time. Meaning it will be hard to even get someone to stop what they're doing to come glamour for you.

It's not about not wanting to be social. It's about wanting an actually well-designed vanity system that we can change up on the fly. They've already said they're not going to do vanity slots on a separate tab. How long does it take to find a crafter on your server?
When I shout for one, I normally get 4-5 tells within 30 seconds, and have to tell people they're out of luck for the job. And melding takes only a few seconds assuming you have everything you need on you.
This is also assuming I don't go bug one my LS's omnicrafters for things...
Vanity shouldn't be dependent on others. Like the aesthetician, applying vanity should be a personal affair. I mean, who goes to the mall and asks the store employees to help them put on their clothes? How long does it take to find a crafter on your server?

Greetings, everyone!
All the details you could wish for related to the Glamour (tentative name) system will be revealed on Lodestone in the near future.![]()
