Fish. When do they stop sensing something is amiss?

There comes a point when fish sense "something is amiss" no matter where you try to go, no matter how far you try to move. If anyone else has noticed this, would you happen to know when it resets?

I've been going after Titanic Sawfish for the past few days (obviously with no luck) and have been achieving the above state after.. I don't know.. somewhere well over 500 crab balls, I think? When it first happened to me, I just put the game down and found something else to do; I figured that it'd reset at JP midnight. This time, I've been fishing through the night and early morning, then at around 7:10am PST (just past JP midnight) I'm hit by the above situation again.

And I like fishing at Parata's Peace just next door for my peiste maps. So I'm concerned that I'm locked out of fishing for my map for the day. I could go BTN at the Bramble Patch for it when I go to do my beastman dailies later, but I'd still like to know when does this fishing lockout reset for future reference.
Because I gotta catch 'em all, and I'm sure I'll run into this issue again.

Whenever this happens to me just moving a little distance away from where i was previously fishing seems to get rid of this. Seems to work for all my FC members.

Its so you can't just stay in the same spot and fish continuously But as was said moving a little ways to andifferent spot will reset it.

Like I said, I reach a point where no matter how far you try to move, it doesn't stop. I'll move from the entrance to Cape Westwind to the other end and still not be able to fish. Whereas normally I can just move a few feet and it clears up.

If you're going for the Titanic Sawfish, your biggest problem is that you're spending a lot of time fishing at the wrong time. It's only catchable between 10am and 6pm and only in clear weather. Go try for something else during the night or cloudy weather and you should never run into the "something amiss" problem.

The question still stands because the point here is that I want to understand this game mechanic better.
On that note, I was able to fish for my map later in the day. So I'm guessing it's more like a cooldown than a static reset. But I still want a better idea of what length of time is involved.

As for sawfish specifically, I have read about those conditions already, but I don't see how people came to that conclusion and would rather not follow it religiously until I see strong reasoning to back it up. I only saw around five testimonies, and it's almost always clear weather in the area anyway. If there's a nice listing where significantly more people have been submitting their raw data for perusal, I'd love to see it. Until then, I don't mind fishing under whatever time frame I'm able to, because it's either I fish or I commit sudoku, and I've already gone through waaay too much sudoku lately.

What I personally love is: fish a couple of times, have a duty finder pop, spend an hour in the dungeon, come back out, try to fish... the fish sense something amiss.

Well, if my testimony has any value, I can corroborate the catching requirements as well as anyone, I suppose. I have about a dozen Titanic Sawfish under my belt and have never caught a single one outside those conditions. And I have spent many, many hours catching Silver Sharks during the night and non-clear weather without ever seeing the sawfish come up. Silver Sharks are good money, so I tend to stick around until I go through about two stacks of low level bait.

As for as the "amiss" mechanic, everything I've experienced with it suggests it is a timer that starts ticking the second you cast your bait somewhere, and once that timer ticks down (it ticks whether you're actually still fishing in that spot or not), things go amiss for a set time in a small area (maybe a yalm or two) around where you were fishing. Then once that amiss timer runs down (doesn't matter where you are or what you're doing during this time), you can fish there again. I can't really give a clear timeframe on those, but I do know that the timeframe for the amiss timer is at least a couple hours. There may be some specific more complex mechanisms going on, but honestly, I don't fish enough in one single location to really notice it.

That's very valuable to me. Good number of results under unbiased fishing habits. So thank you a lot for that.
But wow, you must've spent forever fishing here.

I get the feeling there are two "amiss" things going on.

The first is the timer one that everyone knows. Maybe around half an hour to an hour, it kicks in and you need to move a short distance. A while later, it resets for that small spot ("grid"? as the devs termed it).

The one I'm seeing has the same message, but feels more like a hard cap for the whole "fishing hole". I hit it again yesterday after going through at least 198+195 crab balls, plus however many mooches and such in between. I should've tried fishing in a different hole, like maybe Silver Bazaar for hammerheads, just to see if it was a global fishing cap or not. Or probably a completely different map entirely, since FF11 had zone-wide fishing caps. But no, for better and worse judgment, I went to sleep instead.

Never had a problem such as the OP describes. Usually when the fish sense something is amiss, moving as little as 5 or 10 metres away allows me to continue fishing.
