Well im the #1 DPS so clearly mib 1 (the biggest threat obvously) is mine and the other guy kills mob 2. After that its kind of a favour for me to even turn on auto-attack while i go get a sammich.

May your innards remain so
A marking quest could be useful but marking 1,2,3 is overkill. Instead mark 1, then move the mark to the next mob when the marked one is almost dead.
The best reason to mark more than 1 is if people are actually going to cc, which basically never happens. In that case, mark 1 for target to kill, and mark 1 for cc.
If people ignore my marks, I stop marking. If threat becomes a problem, like dps are running for their lives, then I mark 1 mob, get aggro on it, and let the dps run around until they kill the mobs stuck on them. Usually people appreciate the mark more after that.
But maybe I'm wrong. Convince me why marking 1,2,3 is necessary compared to marking 1 target, then moving to the next one.
They should have made those class quest as learning quest.
For Example
Quest For PLD;
#1: Should focus on using provoke/flash and other hate move to try and pull hate off a NPC healer.
#2: Should be about controlling multiple mobs and keep hate on them.
#3: Should be about a mob that drains MP so PLD will have to use the Riot Blade combo.
#4: Marking... etc
I met Bards who asked me what is Ballad.
IMO tanks should always mark in low level dungeons. Especially now, with roulette.
At low levels you don't have access to your full arsenal of hate holding skills. And you're often being paired with DPS in at least partial Darklight. And even synced that high level gear in low level dungeons can pull hate pretty easily if DPS decide to go after their own target.
If the tank is not marking, however, the onus is on the DPS to take a second and make sure they're attacking the correct mob. Look at the hate meters. Be aware. Be like Smokey the bear: "Only you can prevent party wipes."
Then they should also make a quest about how healers shouldn't use their sleep like it's cure.
Amen to that. As a Dps, Healer, and Tank, i understand. All the dps are telling the player "you suck", or "you're a horrible tank". Meanwhile the dps is focussing on targets 2 and 3 instead of 1. Not to mention bards not using quelling strikes, or blm's opening with flare. Communicate people fix the problem, and don't add to it. Every time you point a finger there are three pointing back at you!Then can we have a questline to teach dps how to attack the numbered order correctly?
I used to mark all the time. However, rarely does anyone follow them. Now I just put a single mark up, if that. Even that can be a wasted effort. Thankfully it's not too hard keep emnity on mobs.
"Doesn't take more than 5 seconds" to mark mobs..yet if you stop for even a second (especially in low dungeons), those noob dps run ahead and aggro everything before you get a chance, making the whole thing just an annoying situation. Mark while fighting is another option, but by that time the dps have each started going apeshit on whichever mob they saw as agreeable.
Do one of the following when your tank pulls a group and you don't a have a marking;
/assist <p#>
/assist <mo>
<p#> - Tank's number in the party list.
<mo> - Mouse over your tank.
Hope it helps.
I used to mark when I first started leveling a pld. NO ONE and I mean no one cared they still would attack mob 4 and I would let them die. Even on my healer other tanks mark and I watch as DPs attacks everything but number one so I also let them die. Why mark if everyone is going to go balls to the wall on the mob marked 6.
I'll usually mark 1 - the priority/biggest threat. For trash mobs I'll swap off when the main target is at like 10% to let everyone know the next target. We've seemed to get by so far. If I notice a different mobs hp dropping, I figure a dps is off and I'll switch.
What macros do people use for marking? I still have an issue trying to tab through enemies and having the focus jump across the room.
