SE: How are we supposed to make money?

Run ct once a day and you will cap philo every 10 days (just once a day) and you can sell philo items. On my server peacock ore (for accessories from GSM) sells for 4k+ each I generally make 60+k a week just doing that. Now get a minor or botanist to 50 and you get treasure maps you can do once every 18 hours. If you get the peitskin map and do it with 7 other people and everyone has a map thats 1.6k per person per map at a minimum, seen as much as 8k per person per map.

Personally, I don't waste time with the dailies, they dont pay out much, so what I do is this (once daily)

1: 1 CT
2: 1 High Duty Roulette
3: 1 Toadskin map (solo treasure map), unless I have time for 8 maps, then I do peitskin
4. Buy peacock ore with philo, put on ah
5. Mine Clusters, put an ah

I generally come out 100k+ in profit a week. Not like I have anything to spend it on besides food and generally people make that stuff for me.

Step 2.) Equip crafted gear
Step 3.) Spiritbond gear to 100%
Step 4.) ????
Step 5.) Profit

Well, since lv up a DoH is so easy with leves, if this statment is true money will be worth less than it is now, this means inflaction and the original price of house (and everything else on MB) would be higher.

How can I make any Rose Gold or Astral items when I can't afford the materials?

Farm your own philo tomes to buy the mats (cost nothing but your time and a little repair cost)

Every time I try to sell items in the market, I get undercut. I see an item is selling for 3200 gil. Great, so I make some of them, put them up for sale for 2800 (thinking i'll get them sold) and then come back the next day to see nothing sold. Same item is now selling for 2000, and then 1800, and then 1000 and then 500 gil.

Looks like you were the one who started the undercut (12.5% of the lowest price), seems reasonable other people will come back to you.

Some days I am lucky. Some days I check my retainer and I see enough has sold that I made 10K or 20K gil. These are good days. Then I promptly spend that money on new materials and shards. I craft new items, put them up for sale, and repeat the whole cycle of being undercut and not making any money.

Again you can lv up a DoL and farm your own mats/shard (cost nothing but your time)

I tried gathering, but anything I pull out of the earth sells for like 10 gil each, and is not worth spending an hour mining for 1200 gil profit. I could grind dungeons and such for tomestones and get items with that to sell, but the reason I want to craft is so I can have some leisure and not always be in a dungeon fighting mobs over and over again.

Good point, but no one guaranteed crafting will make you huge money (it will and it did make you some money) plus u picked the wrong one to make money these day (GSM was the bigget money maker in the first 2 months, but now everyone is a GSM)

How to people expect to make millions for things they want like housing if nobody is buying their retainer items and prices are so low because items are so common?

It's a "FC" house, you don't buy it by yourself and SE is lowing the price now (will hit bottom by the end of Feb and if it is still too high by that time SE will lower it again).

Well what do you expect when you can lvl a craft to max lvl withhin 2 days (If you are slacking). The big money cus you spend a day to lvl that craft lol... If you want to spend no time to lvl something don't expect it to be actually useful...

Throw materia in HQ jewelry, and you can finish it in about 2-3 hours while earning tomes. Vitality IV still sells reasonably well on my server.

You're taking the wrong approach. Gathering items don't sell for much, but if you put your gathering job to work for your Goldsmith, imagine how much you'd save on materials. You'd be saving gil by not spending money on mats (minus crystals, but now you have the option to gather those. Also, just level each craft up to 5. You get a lot of crystals those first few levels and can grind through them in 15 minutes without spending much gil at all. Miner compliments Goldsmith perfectly. You won't have to buy any mats, so now that one that got undercut to 500 gil is still 500 gil profit!

Things getting undercut? Make sure to only put 1 or 2 up MAX. Undercutting is the norm, not the exception, so you shouldn't be surprised when this happens.

There is your problem right there, You're looking to make money from the MB, which atm is terrible. From what I have gathered so far in my limited play time, Yoshi isn't very focused on Gathering/Crafting to make money, but more on the Treasure hunts and Dailies money making method.

Basiclly you need to look at what is out there, MB is flooded atm so its not a good place, but TH with a 8 man group is an alright means atm. You wont be a millionaire overnight but I think this is the "slower but bearable" money maker the devs are looking for.

Keep checking back at the MB however, you might just find a niche in there somewhere (I hope)

Opportunity cost. Just because you gathered it yourself doesn't make it profit.

If you could have been doing something that paid considerably better with your time, then you have effectively lost time, which is equal to money (gil).

I make about 100-200k a day when I actually put the effort in with my crafting. The only thing I have to spend the gil on is paid primal kills though, and given that patch 2.2 is out in march the time spent with the fruits of this sort of thing isn't worth the effort put in to attain them.
