People sacrifice good gear for "fashion"

To add because I ran out of room. Just because you group up with others, mdon't mean a thing. "No one has any right to tell someone how they must pay. Want that right? Pay for their account. Then cut them off if they do not listen. When and if I pay for my account I'm playing how I choose. I'm here top have fun. But do not get me wrong I am respectful in parties. But I do not blindly follow orders from people. Working as a team is the most importent thing, and tbh gear doesn't effect teamwork. As long as the tank can tank, healer can heal and the supplimentary damage dealers do their thing in moderation to both tank and healer party will kill regardless of what gear players are waring. Gear should only keep ypu alive not make you epic, your level and skill at playing should. I try to keep my gear level updated. But sometimes that is not always possible. More so in player driven econamies. Currently on the servers I seen crafter do not make/sell lower level gear, or if they do its like 10-70K.

Most of the stats don't work. So yeh you might as well run around almost naked with star spangled subligar on and tank GB, The outcome would probably be the same with some one who has full templer on.

One thing I like about this game is that I'm not forced to run around with all the same gear as everyone else. That's what happens when gear is crucial, you have two choices, to wear the gear everyone else has or get nerfed as a result of wearing what you want. In FFXIV I can actually play my character and wear what is relevant to it. That being said I wear gear that is level appropriate, but I would still make a decision to always wear the gear that I enjoy over the gear I hate even if it has better stats.

Tell you the truth, for how much stats do not make a big difference in your performance, I could care less if I see a Gladiator in a Mage's robe. A lot of people want to look like Ezio Auditore.

I made a suggestion as a new thread to use the materia system as a way to convert gear thats fashionable into function using the Materia system. So you could use something pretty with stats made for combat.

Something I don't really understand is the growing desire people have to looks "fashionable" rather than have better gear. It's pretty shocking how many people just tell me "I'm wearing this because it looks better" even though they are well aware of gear being better for them that doesn't look so stellar >.<. Stuff like this can really make a party suffer and it's quite selfish so I ask why? Why is this allowed? Anyone else relate?

Personally, and this is my 2c on the matter, I have not noticed much of a difference when I do or don't have optimum gear equipped for my classes. I do notice a difference with some spells occasionally, but nothing that I would consider to be proof that the stats are working correctly.

I levelled my THM to 34 without changing my gear at all ( was in full weathered ) and had no issues.

On the flip side though, I don't get this want to have fashion slots, it just seems really stupid to me. I don't moan in real life when I have to wear a raincoat in the rain, when I would prefer to wear shorts and a vest, or that I have to wear a jumper and jeans in the snow, instead of speedos and a mohito.

I really just don't get it. MMo's core mechanics revolve around improving your gear, and the pursuit of upgrades, so why people want to remain looking the same for the entire time baffles me, as you have just defeated the central purpose of the game.

I think you got it a bit wrong Vahzl, most of the time you'll see folks in gear for the wrong class or for ranks much higher than their own. Most people don't wear weathered gear for fashion.

Honestly it's too much of a pain for me to navigate the menus in the market wards to compare stats and find out what is the most optimal piece of gear for my class anyway. I can't sort by rank or class, or group items I can wear in one list, so by the time I go through all the menus to compare several items I've already forgotten the stats on them. Not to mention that I have to close out of the menu entirely if I want to check the stats on my equipped gear to see if what I'm looking at is an upgrade.

Rather than wasting my time keeping an extensive paper log of everything, I just buy what I think looks nice that can be worn by my class and not worry about the stats. Like everyone else said, gear doesn't matter in this game anyway.
