Why is there SO much people here?
As a new WHM I can understand looking at some gear, but the rest?
Why is it so popular

Everyone's gotta go somewhere, and what more convenient place to be between dungeons than where you can buy the best gear with the stuff you get from the dungeons?

We used to go there to shout to get any kind of party going...
So I created the habit of hanging out there.

Before the party finder was introduced, that's where all the 50's would go to look for parties doing stuff they need, or recruit for parties for the same reason.
Old habits die hard I suppose. But more than that, it's still faster to shout for members even while recruiting in the PF. Some people forget to check it, or may just be looking at gear as you mentioned. Or passing through for a number of reasons. And Mor D'hona is the place to be if you want to find a party without the party finder, which a lot of people still don't use.
I go to Mor Dhona to shake my bum at people.I'm sorry.

This, basically. Also, it's been bugging me for a bit, how exactly is Mor Dhona pronounced? I've been pronouncing it Morr Donne-a and have been wondering if it's correct (probably not).

"Alot" is not a word. Allot is but it's unlikely to be what you want, try "A lot".
Thank goodness, im not the only one who has thought about this about Mor Donna (More Dough Na, btw, or atleast how I hear it said most the time :P)
Im just about lvl capped my bard, and the first time I discovered Mor Donna, first thing Ive noticed was Holy skit- this explains where everyone was on my server :P
It's alot more lively than the rest of the world was.
I never even noticed the full town sound effect until I got to revelant's toll :I Aha....
Sometimes, I wear my reindeer outfit and shake my tail. You'd be surprised how many lalas try to grab it.
still got my return saved there, i guess with the new party finder doesnt matter as i can change to to a city, but still trade in philo points there.
