Trust me, it does take a while and becomes mindless pretty quickly while farming them with guildhests. All I can say is "grind grind grind".

Anyway. Mine's sitting at rank 6, but I only keep it out while leveling alt classes now. 10 seems pretty unlikely as it stands... :-/

Even if I could re-spect I still dont think I would. When I solo, I like to have healing abilities as tank and while Im on my Blackmage I like the Chocobos Tanking ability.

I really hope they add the re-spec for chocobos, I'm currently a rank 9 chocobo and not so far away from rank 10, but in my earlier noob days i never knew you could earn bardings let alone re-spec.

Question, lately I've noticed a lot of gatherers with their chocobo's out; Do Chocobo's gain experience from us gathering? I can see that adding up to some rather crazy exp and if it does work, I wish I had tried it sooner. My Miner is already at 47. ><

Chocobos don't get exp while gathering. They do protect their owners from random agro issues.

So to receive a barding, I need to choose all skills from the same category right? I made mine a DPS in the beginning and invested one skill (Regena) in healing so I am already screwed as it seems. Should have better tried to get a Chocobo tank or Healer instead. The DPS chocobo is not that good lol.

But SE should really look into Chocobo levelling. It is way too slow as it is now. I have five characters in combat classes Level 50 and I used my Chocobo regularly and not only for FATES or leves but also for weeks of spiritbonding and since 2.1 also for the Amal'ji tribe quests. But he is only Level 7 still. If you don't concentrate on Chocobo levelling, you prolly need ALL combat classes to get him to Level 10. But what do I need it for when I have no character to level anymore? A level 50 hero doesn't need a chocobo at all. Maybe if you do Peiste maps with 4 people only they have a little use but that's pretty much it.

I have a rank 10 chocobo and I honestly don't mind that it took me that long to get it.

It was a grind, but honestly there are so little actual grinds in this game that I felt like I actually accomplished something rare. Feels nice that I actually have something somewhat unique.

I went for a hybrid build - points in all trees, so I am screwed and can't get this barding like many others. Though after some testing, I know I should have went with healer tree 100%. It's the most useful. Tank chocobo can't hold aggro for crap if your ilvl is high. This will only get worse with new gear incoming. Dps chocobo has same dmg potency in later attacks, so it's pretty worthless too. Healer chocobo on the other hand turns out to be very useful if you're farming mobs for Beast tribe quests, spiritbinding, item farming, treasure hunts, solo fates, etc. You can go nuts with your dps class and not worry about your HP. It's quite a relief, so I wish it was full healer for even better heals.
