I once was impressed by high level gamers, then I started working. There are so many things more worth someone's respect then a person that can grind up some top level gear.

I mean, if you have it, good for you. But you are not getting respect from me for being top level and having some digital loot.
Pfft I bet you would fall down on your knees in front of a Burtgang Aegis paladin in FFXI! Anyone with a myth weapon (except the BST one) was quite the sight. They get first priority in any end-game event. Their weapon usually costed around 600 mil or more and you had to invest a LOT of time doing side quests for months and camp NMs in the these deep, open-world (yes, YOU CANNOT DUTY FINDER THIS....) humongous deadly zones with key-doors switch mechanics that required two groups that required a raid to defeat that would never spawn for weeks to complete the quests for the myth weapon. I was actually part of a group that locked themselves in the troll room for weeks (They lock themselves in there because warping out meant having to spend another 30 mins-1hr). FF14 beast zones are a pre-school playground play-house compared to these. I could never imagine doing that at lvl 75 because you would need a full alliance (18 people) to do it vs the 99 cap. And that is the difference from FFXI to FF14 right now. There is really no segregation of people based on their gear yet because the difference between allagan/primal/myth gear is so miniscule. Blame the DEVs for making Myth gear the same ilvl as current best in slot gear... just doesn't make sense to give that access to people who don't really earn it the right way. As someone mentioned before, it is a business move to make everyone happy so people don't leave so early and they pull in more casual subscribers for the sake of money. Once they increase the gap between hard-core content and casual content (nerfed myth gear), respect will be pouring out of everywhereeee!!!! People don't understand what the OP means by in awe or respect. It means admiring someone with gear and skill that you would never even dream of coming close to within a short amount of time.

It is just matter of time. They are just trying to figure out how to implement it. They will because WoW hired a guy from EQ #1 raiding guild to create there hardest content that only 1% of players would ever achieve. If Yoshida is hell-bent on following WoW (he said it influenced him), he will implement it. I think anyone who does not understand the respect/awe/adulation factor is not in the wrong, but they are ignorant because they seem to diss the reason why that content even exists. It is so the people will, for whatever reason, be the best in the game and seperate themselves from people who don't play as much. In FFXI, the best of the best get access to super-bad ass weapon skills. If you saw someone using some instant-KO spell or a 8-hit sword weapon skill with a 10 second animation you would never get access to for years... I think you would probably fall head over heels for them. And the weaponskill grants them a triple quadruple attack effect. If you don't give a rat's butt about it, then fine. It just means you do not care and you are probably going to move to another MMO. If you were in FFXI, and there was a raid even that said myth/relic weapons only, and you only had a normal weapon. Would your opnion matter? No. And that is why hardcore opinion does not matter right now because FF14 is has no gear to support this arguement. When they implement content that requires allagan weapon only, we will start seeing the game go in the right direction. No one is barred from content at the moment in FF14, so no one has any respect for end-gaming.

I think these forums are really bad at making some opinions that should NOT even be pertinent matter. If there's one thing I am noticing, these forums make casual opinion seem like only way things are done, but it is only one side of the coin. I guarantee all these people wanting a DF-raid casual myth gear MMO are going to quit.

I don't see what would make me respect, admire, or fall down to my knees in front of someone just because he had a bunch of dudes stand around in game for a long periods of time (months?) waiting to fight AI monsters so that he could get a video game weapon...

And when there are so many vastly more impressive things to be 'the best of the best' of, nope, not going to respect some dude's shiny PvE MMO gear. Come on, how can you not see how lame that sounds?
