If that solution help, than your router is buggy.

Portforwarding is to open ports in your firewall for incoming request and telling the router, where this shall get routed. Portforwarding is needed, when you run a server that shall be accessible from internet.

FF14 client is not listening any open ports as a server. So portforwarding makes no sense for it.

Well why do the tech support tell me to do it, and why did they go to great lengths to make a guide for every single router and model for this? like i said 3 days no lag, not once. i used to lag for 20 seconds every 1-2 mins before now not a single time in 3 days after doing this. so the results speak for themselves, weather it makes sense or not it works and most online games tell you to open your ports if you have lag, gw2, wow, rift, swtor, cod, bf etc all tell you to open ports, even on consoles like the xbox one and ps4.

You did notice, that the linked site is not a SE site?

Why they do that? Maybe because all these routers do have the same or similar issue.

I do know how routers, switches, firewalls, proxys, ... do work, as it is part of my work for that I do earn my money. Because of this, I can tell you, that portforwarding should not be needed for that game, when all networking components do their work, as they should, as the game is not acting as a server.

Also you should know a little bit about networking, before you open ports in your firewall and forward them to a computer. Every opened port inceases the risk of security issues.

This could be complete coincidence. There are many of us who have been suffering lag for a week or two, this resolved itself spontaneously for a few of us 2-3 days ago.
