For me the problem hop is ae-11-11.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net but yeah, close enough.
I wonder if it is at all possible to route around that particular IP and go to the next one:
IE. Instead of going from 4.69.141.5 to 4.69.141.1 (10-30% Packet Loss) to 4.59.178.74, if we could just go from 4.69.141.5 to 4.59.178.74 directly.
This is a 5 minute Pingplotter graph for the ae-11-11.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net hop, IP address 4.69.141.1
Um, that is a LOT of packet loss. 10%-20%, sometimes as much as 40%. Frankly this one router is busted, or just overtaxed, or something... but it needs to be fixed. Everything else is working great... Well, great enough to not have any effect on my gaming experience.
But this one specific hop is causing me a lot of grief, and I am not alone...

There are a lot of frustrated people in this thread, unfortunately tempers get out of hand leading to insults & accusations. I believe we've established a few things: the lag issues are not solely for EU players but widespread. It appears those experiencing this "new lag" are FiOS customers. People have noticed an increase in errors since the latest patch. Some players are lucky enough to find success with WTFast and the likes while others feel it unnecessary to pay additional $ per month to play the game.
(This thread recap brought to you today by our sponsors...jk jk!)
The only thing we can all agree on is our desire for SE to respond to our inquiries on this matter.
Added note. Special shoutout to Kenji1134 and his pingplotter graph. That's the most interesting thing I've seen on the forum today and I like the way that word sounds..Ping Plotter. You may have just inspired my new alt's name![]()
SE please look into this! Playing the game in dungeons is super frustrating!! The game "freezes" for between 2-15s, and then everything and everyone plays "catch-up" and lots of stuff happens at megaspeed. :< I find it funny too that sometimes you can talk normally in chatwindow to other ppl, right up until the point you get the 90k screen. >_<
Lily: Are you afraid of my kiss?
Jack: I'm afraid you'll break my heart.
Lily: Then still your heart... You are dear to me as life itself.
Rubberbanding, i would say 60+% of the time, is a local issue. As in your city, your street, your house, your router, your nic.
Want to test it? bring your computer to a friend's house and hook into their router, and see if the same issues occur.
Don't half-ass it by tapping into a shared wireless network at apartments or something.
If no troubles, the issue is confirmed local. If yes, then we can talk.
Don't want to test it? Then don't expect us to consider your concerns as valid.
*raises hand* I've done this at three addresses. Rubber banding at all three. Two are Sky Broadband, one is BT Infinity.Rubberbanding, i would say 60+% of the time, is a local issue. As in your city, your street, your house, your router, your nic.

Here is my take as an EU player that is starting 2 month of play time. My max lv class is 40 from and what I see its getting harder and harder to dodge attack, with a latency of ~350+/- I don't know if I will be able to do the HM content or any high lv new content that will come, I didn't even touch pvp because of this. If I'm lock out of contend because of lag I will just move on to Wildstar/Black Desert back to GW2 or whatever and I'm sure I'm not the only one. SE needs to really think it through if not making a true EU server is saving them money in the long run because I'm 100% they are loosing money because of this fact and they will continue until its EU player base is a skeleton of what it could have been.
Just to let you guys know.
At&t throttles, Verizon throttles, Time Warner throttles.
anyone who runs their ISP heavy gets throttled, Not sure if FFXIV runs heavy on their servers but is a guess.
I use xfinity zero issues. I changed my isp when at&t started to throttle my gaming, couple family members had time warner said its complete garbage and verizon I always hear nightmare stories about them.
It doesn't matter, all of this is irrelevant.
Other gaming companies are running successfully without these issues.
SE is not.
End of story.
Most game companies arent going through the level3 Montreal nodes, SE is, those Nodes have been shown to drop anywhere from 10-40% of packets during peak hours. This, for me started after the 2.1 patch.. What did the 2.1 patch do in terms of data? It changed the server position checking from 0.3 seconds to 0.1 seconds (ive heard) this would triple that type of traffic going through the level3 nodes. Either the nodes cannot handle it, or have gone bad, or something. The only thing game wise I can see SE doing is reverting that change, otherwise they have to work something out with level3.
Anyway, I doubt they will every publicly admit to anything. That would increase expectations for them to fix something, jeopardize negotiations with level3 if there are any going on, or possibly open them up to a libel suit from level3 (silly I know, but in a world where you can trademark and sue over the word "Scrolls" and "Candy"....)
