FFXIV App becomes ban worthy when used against players. For instance, i see this all the time. "Sorry (player name here) you had the lowest DPS and we failed." *kicked from party* This is a form of harassment. Thats why ppl get banned for parsing. If used to better your own DPS or to help someone then it isn't harassment or breaking the game in any way. I used the app to help me figure out my monk rotation. I got it up to 289 DPS(i70 MNK) on a training dummy after a few hours but i wouldn't have been able to do that even in a few days w/o the parser. (I like to learn on my own rather than watch videos.) So my rotation is from scratch, by me. Going to try again when i get to i90 to see how far above 300 i can go. betting 330 at least...) Unfortunately, the only end game bosses i can get that on are chimera and hydra assuming they dont move to cast circles on themselves....Looking at you hydra!
Anyway, this is an example of what the APP should be used for. Not as a tool to kick the weakest link. Keep in mind that kicking is reportable and should be used sparingly. Too many reports and you get banned...
Auron: Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
I understand where you are coming from and agree that if a player uses a parse as weapon/ammunition to attack another player. The instigator should be warned/banned for his action. But where I disagree is that the punishment should be issued for attacking another player regardless of whether a parser or parse result is in place or not.FFXIV App becomes ban worthy when used against players. While I am all for trying to help someone better themselves first.
If you think end game content would ever be beaten without survival of the fittest your kidding yourself. If your the lowest by some significant margin your hindering your team and need to figure out why and work to fix it or step out and allow them to find someone who can do the job.
If your the lowest because your all doing within 10% dps of each other that is a totally different story but someone doing half the dps of everyone else is never going to get you through properly tuned content.
Same applies to the healer who burns his mana wildly or doesn't manage his healing aggro properly. Is using their lack of mana in comparison to the 2nd healer as proof of them being inefficient at their job a bannable offense too?
Or the tank who doesn't keep mobs from destroying the rest of the group?
In progression content everyone has a job. You need to do yours or allow your team to find someone who will. Is there another metric you would like dps to be gauged by? Should we all go to T4 of BC and each dps solo down a spider and kick the one who kills theirs last?
I've never had to replace a dps in my FC because thankfully SE didn't follow suit of WoW and its like and make events where 1 dps being anything less than perfect invokes the enrage gods. But I can tell you they are doing their job as a group and none of them are being carried.

I am simply using him as an example that people don't need a parser to attack/belittle/berate others, and SE should take action based on the fact that a player is verbally hostile/abusing another player whether a 3rd party tool of any kind is in play or not.
But yes, I agree with you entirely regarding your deduction and would really love to see a clarification from SE's side. Which I imagine is taking so long for them to reply because they have to carefully word what they say next to not cause further confusion.
Still no documentation of that, which I've said before I would settle for. Some guy on the internet who made the parser saying "they said it was okay" without showing us where they said it is okay... is the same as my dead grandma's ghost on the internet saying "they said it was okay." Did we skip that post?
If I were that guy I would've been banned for dropped a few f bombs on that GM... -.-
Banning for... a parser?
Shouldn't SE be thanking people for making a parser for their game? Is this really 2014 or did I somehow travel back to 1997?
People keep acting as if parsers magically hack their way into other peoples games to steal information or make them do crap dps, when all it does it read your combat log. Nothing more! And do you know how it reads all of that "secret" data from other players? Via the chat log based on filters that are set within the game itself. You can turn them on/off and see the damage other people in the game are doing without ever using a parser.
A parser is a tool, and like all tools you can use them properly or improperly. Now, the person who got banned did not use it improperly or attack anyone with it. What he did do though is use it to get an accurate reading of just how bad the other guy was without having to guess at it, and then rightfully called him out for it.
Trying to ban parsers because somebody got their e-feelings hurt by one is like trying to ban hammers because you missed the nail and hit your thumb.
You should read more, it's not up to us to prove you wrong when you're simply being ignorant. But for your enlightenment:Still no documentation of that, which I've said before I would settle for. We were told that FFXIVAPP was allowed by SE themselves. I'll forward this on to Zam's president and have him get in touch with our SE rep.Yeah they've had the source for quite some time as I used it in an interview as well and discussed it a bit during a meetup with them. As Wint said any updates will be posted though.
