You know maybe you just need a tiny shiny item on your table or something and when you click on it you'll be transferred to airship building dimension. :P

Perhaps not cooking?!?! CRAFTERS GOTTA EAT TOO!!!! Lol >.<
I do like this idea, though. I would imagine crafting an airship would take a considerable amount of time. Maybe they could make it so there was a durability/efficiency type stat that would slowly degrade throughout the process. The hungrier the crafting team gets, the worse their performance becomes. It is up to the chef to make sure these good crafters receive the sustenance they need to go on building binges!!!!
I call role of Chef Ramsey >)

Prediction/Speculation:
FC houses will eventually have magic-door furnishings, that can be placed on the walls and will lead to individual members' personal houses/rooms. These magic doors will also be used expand FC houses to the Airship building areas, farming, chocobo raising, crafting zones, etc...
This is how even small FC houses will ultimately have enough room for large groups of players.
What we have currently is only the 'HUB' of FC housing.

Basically this. Probably a furniture item resembling a floor hatch or something that you place on the floor, which leads to another instanced room that mimics an underground workshop. If SE wants to be lazy it'll probably look the same regardless of your house size and city.

Lorewise could be that the guys at Ironworks build a teleporter using allagan tech they figure out from CT. Using that they let us borrow a part of their workshop which could be said to get a new headquarters.Basically this. I was doing some research and found this update from Yoshi-P... from over two years ago... (Nobody can say they don't have long-term plans...)It mentions an "underground facility" for airships, as well as other housing-related future content.
From a "Future of Gathering Classes" update on November 9, 2011 (source: Japanese, English Translation)
I spoke a little bit about housing in the 2nd edition of the LIVE producer letter. I personally came up with the basic design for housing. (We have separate staff working on the details, and I feel bad for them that I was so ambitious with my plans)
I decided to implement a garden by any means necessary so that we can add content for Disciples of the Land and Hand.
It is also possible for players to decorate the exterior of buildings using custom architectural items created by Disciples of the Hand using construction material gathered by Disciples of the Land. There are roofs and other architectural items that can be purchased with gil, but custom items will only be attained through Disciples of the Hand and Land.
We also plan on implementing gardens so that players can plant gysahl greens and raise chocobo chicks.
Another thing we have planned for housing is an underground facility for building boats and airships. (This will be implemented sometime after the release of 2.0) We will release an image for housing as soon as possible, so please look forward to this patiently.

Have green eggs and ham with a mouse?
