Lack of SE Response to Lag

Sorry to make another thread about this but SE haven't acknowledged that they're doing anything about the lag issue.

61 pages with no response from SE > http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...n-%28R0%29-lag

    My original post > http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Unplayable-Lag

The lag is rendering the game unplayable for a lot of players even us resorting to programs such as Pingzapper. It's been well over a week with 100s of complaints from various affected ISP users.

After submitting bug reports, contacting SE and my ISP (Sky) all I get is "It must be Sky's fault" or "It must be SE's fault".

I'd just really like a response to say "Hey we're aware of the issue and we're doing X Y and Z to try and fix it." Just so we know that this issue will be resolved.

Really love this game but when you get 5-10 second rubber banding every minute and continuous 90ks what's the point in playing?

Sorry again for sounding like a broken record.

Whilst pingzapper and wtfast both seem to help with this problem (except wtfast which actually kills any form of connection on my laptop!), the fact we aren't seeing any action or any word from SE on this issue baffles me completely. A single post that even acknowledged the issue would at least ease the minds of the affected.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, all pingzapper/WTfast is, is a VPN service, it allows your traffic to be routed via a private network as opposed to the public internet, it's still connecting to the SAME routers and servers on SE's end, therefore if this increases your ping and actually lowers latency, then the issue isn't specifically on SE's end, the problem is a, the internet, millions of people using the infrastructure, so SE could slightly bump up the cast on AoEs for this, or b, your ISP is using a sub-par route to get to the datacenter.

People saying "SE YOUR NETWORK SUCKS" then says how a VPN makes it much more playable makes me laugh every time.

That's not entirely an accurate take on the situation. I've been playing since 1.0 and early access for ARR. I have never encountered lag so severe. Increasing cast times is an innane solution because the game would be laughable for anyone unaffected by this issue. And the idea of my isp taking a poor route holds no credence given the otherwise ideal service im getting.

    does pingzapper work for you?

I ask because if it does, why not just accept that sometimes you have to do this. Its not reasonable to ISP's on both ends to resolve issues around internet traffic that is in between equipment they control, For every user in north america. the people that run 3rd party routing VPN's have done some of this work to optimize routing for things like video games. And they do this at a very reasonable price. I know people think they should not have to pay more to fix "broken" services. but when you want a very specific level of performance, sometimes you got to pay

I could be wrong, but I am assume that many MMO game hosting companies do work with major internet back bone providers to get routing to their data centers working better. but again, its not reasonable to expect they can address ALL issues. In this case, you just have to keep bugging them. Personally, i would just us the 3rd party routing service before waiting however.

The kind of lag they are talking about is you run from an AoE and although you were out of it on your screen you still get hit, I had a particularly bad one once, in Titan, when other players said I was out of it.

For the most part I am Ok on the latency side since I got a fibre optic connection, what my complaint is about is people crying to SE about latency when they say a VPN virtually fixes it for them.

The kind of lag we are talking about is game stands still for ten seconds, then plays catch up as everything goes off at once. Minor latency can be worked with no matter how annoying. The current situation is insurmountable for any serious content

    /sigh...

MMO developers flag their IP ranges with ISPs to let them know that traffic to those IPs are not Torrent sites. ISPs throttle connections to torrent/P2P sites. SE did this with JP ISPs at the start of closed Beta when this happened in Japan.

They have not informed Western ISPs. Hence, some ISPs are classifying these connections as Torrent/P2P sites and throttling them.

This is why VPNs get around it, your ISP only sees you connect to the first server in the VPN. Everything after that is handled by the VPN servers.

This happens in other MMOs also, but this is normally sorted within hours.

Please show me where I said "SE YOUR NETWORK SUCKS".

I've asked for a response. "Much more playable" isn't good enough to be honest. Still getting lag spikes and 90k when this wasn't happening before last week. There is obviously a problem either on SE's end, several ISP's end or somewhere in the middle. It's therefore in SE's interest to determine what the problem is or they'll lose a portion of their player base due to this. "ISPs fault. Too bad" isn't the way to resolve these issues.

It lowers the rate of rubber banding but doesn't eradicate it and 90k error is common. Could be disconnected 5 or 6 times in a night while the last time I DC'd was Beta/Early Access.
