Tanking was hard at level 14. Now, I don't even bother to mark targets, I don't even care what targets are attacked. DPS can't pull aggro. Tanking as a paladin requires two flashes per group and then Rage of Halone combo on mobs. That's it. Those four abilities are the only buttons I need to press. I can use cool downs if I feel like it, sword oath if our DPS is lacking, or stun mobs for giggles because my TP is full but none of that is required. Tanking bosses could be done with a macro. I'm not sure why people say tanking is hard, it's boring. It does get me instant queues though.

IMO it has nothing to do with tanks. It may seem DPS has more rude people but that's probably because DPS are the majority. I mean just go to Drama Tower for a run or two- I promise you Alliance chat will be flooded regardless of what job do what... They will most likely won't even care for the jobs and refer to the alliance and insult them as a whole.

Sadly some people need to begrade others to feel their own worth. And they do it to others regardless of their jobs.

I love tanks, as a healer they're my best friends hehe!

Thank you so much OP for this. So much of it hits close to home xD. I leveled a tank to play with a group of friends and ended up really enjoying it, unfortunately I've developed a huge fear of tanking for randoms based on the additudes you've explained. While playin my DPS and WHM class I managed to get a lot of ilvl90 pieces for my WAR but when entering duty finder and explaining I'm a new tank people just laugh at me and proceed to call me a noob on the smallest mistake. I told you I'm learning, calm your face.

Anyways thank you for making my morning

On multiple mobs, with 2 flashes and nothing else for the rest of the fight (no other flashes or aoe damage), any half-decent dps can take agro from you on targets you're not combing RoH on (at least once?) (especially a BLM).

At least that is my experience with a ilvl 55 sword :P (GC sword). Will check again once I get my relic.

uhmmm why do we need to get offensive ? defensive ? angry or annoyed ? why cant people just accept that not everybody knows, understands or is god like..no matter what positions one occupies ? bah

I had a funny experience, I was in val d'aurum, silly tank runs ahead, doesnt let me even finish to put up the shields and what not, no time, so I run after, he pulls in disorder we wipe in no time, I got mobs on me and paff done. OK we start again, tank lands and disappears doestn even wait that my mana comes back, that everybody gets back from the deads, I said wait to no vail...paff we die again...this time I wondered if the guy was even looking at who was tehre so I stayed back...and waited...waited ...waited...waited..until the guys (all of them) died again....which didnt take long they didnt even realize that the healer wasnt with them...

Needless to say I let them there and left...they clearly didnt need me..this didnt require any insult though...

A good tank leads each and every fight. They call out patterns, they know when stuns/silences are needed, they know who needs to be doing what and where they need to be doing it from. You have that downtime because you need to be watching everyone.

But what came first; the chicken or the egg?

A tank is not allowed to be terrible at their job. However, everyone else is.

You could argue that tanking, at a basic level, is not difficult at all. And you might be right. But it is neither here nor there. It is beside the point.

I mean, I could also say that (as a tank and melee dps) DPSing, at a basic level, is not difficult at all either. But that doesn't change the fact that new PLD isn't allowed to suck at his job but johnny the bard and rico the monk can do 60 DPS in a 4 man dungeon without being criticized or kicked from the group.

Thanks Mad Macallan, for this thread. I have since stopped tanking for some of the very reasons you've posted. I think I am going to try it out again tonight.

Maybe people are saying that tank is bad, because he is bad? Just in case... Tanks have instant queue times. And people love instant queue times. And not all of them love tanking (and can do it properly)
