We already have a shield that protects for ~50% hp depending on the target - Adloquium critical hits. Granted, it's not an emergency ability and is only guaranteed to shield for about 20% hp if used as planned mitigation, but with a 20% crit rate it ends up being active at high strength a decent amount over the course of a fight. Even with a modest ilevel of 78, my crit Adloquiums land for about 2300-2500 shield unbuffed.

True but it's not reliable. The point of being able to add a shielding CD is for the times where you cannot predict or prevent inc. tank damage. Or even if you are predicting and preventing, what happens when you're out of lustrate stacks and other CDs(rare case I know but it could happen in future content especially with the virus nerf)? The shielding CD would be a last resort and a damn good one. A shielding CD on a 5min timer is not going to insult anyone's intelligence on a fight. It's merely a last resort when all other preventative options are gone. I'm not even asking for it right now but when they raise the level cap, I could see us getting a CD like it. One more great CD to add to our arsenal of being bamfs at preventative damage. We already have a shield that protects for ~50% hp depending on the target - Adloquium critical hits. If you don't think Lustrate is an "O S---" skill, you need to stop playing SCH. All you're doing is giving SCHs a bad name and I feel sorry who decides to make you heal on SCH since you do not have a fundamental understanding of your own abilities.
Hmm ok you just made yourself a troll with this topic definitlySCH needs an oh S*** ability
As far as I know Tanks and WHMs have emergency skills on long CDs that can save lives. SCH dont have anything like this. Something like an instant cast shield, shielding a person for 50% of max hp on a 5 min CD would be nice.

Like the previous posts already stated Lustrate > Benediction. You can heal about 150% ( 6x times ) if you have Aetherflow on cd. Think for yourself![]()
those instant spells aern't so instant actually.
imo sch is more of a buff healer thats why, plus you have a pet healing too... if the heals where as big as whm then whm would be pointless and unused...
The precious skill "Lustrate"
which is granted 3 times with an aetherflow per 1 min and free from GCD. I still cant count how many times i saved ppl in party and dps mobs/bosses freely when i ve lustrate in stack. Thts why i cant imagine any better skill than this even on other classes has.

Now that I think about it, scholar doesnt have a 5min ability. Is it the only class that doesnt have one ?
Off the top of my head, the longest cool downs for each job are...
Paladin - Hallowed ground, 7 mins
Warrior - Holmgang, 3 mins
Monk - Perfect Balance, 4 mins
Dragoon - Dragonfire Dive, 3 mins
Bard - Battle Voice, 5 mins
White Mage - Benediction, 5 mins
Black Mage - Convert, 3 mins
Summoner - Enkindle, 5 mins
Scholar - Fey Illumination/Fey Light/Eye for an Eye - 2 mins
