sounds like a bigger problem arises from your counterargument: gear has relatively no effect based on that.

In most situations, aside from defensive stats and HP/MP, gear IS useless. My damage output and resist rate did not change when I changed from Harlequin's acton + Velveteen hat to Vintage robe + Harlequin's cap and visa versa. The stat scaling is just so broken that you would need +100 in the stat to get maybe 20 extra damage. You're better off gearing HP/MP + defensive stats and don't worry about the attributes that's on the gear.
Also, this game is extremely easy. As my counterargument intended to say, if you're having trouble, get better. Gear has no major effect on your performance.
Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing

Somewhat true, I still use an Armored Calvary bow as an r46 arc, (just looks badass imo) but my damage doesn't seem to be significantly lower than a crab bow.In most situations, aside from defensive stats and HP/MP, gear IS useless. Then again, I kept my Selene's Bow in XI all the way to lv 90, even after getting a Fay Gendawa with decent augments.

normally i choose best equip..but there are thing that my PG can't wear.
For example in FFXI on my elvaan-M i really hate subligar..
subligar that i use on mi'quote
this is character design.
In GW i can't stand the horrible design of warrior that have bad looking armor and a bull type costitution that can't be changed.
A lot of time a set of armor is simply too horrible to wear without ruin a character look,

Lol, then I should mention that I've always chosen fashion over stats whenever it came to general gameplay since the Vana'diel years. If people have a problem with it then, well, that is their choice of opinion. If I can't look good while doing things I want then it takes from the fun and leaves me with another chore.
When and where the stats make the difference or show the most promise is when I will switch my sets to appropriate the situation (i.e. Sea, Sky, NM's etc.) Lucky for me though I play the healer, so my experience has taught me that 0% of people care what gear I choose to wear during any event (I could probably get away with being naked :3 )
