Well - considering it's double mooch it's not really that much easy catch so for some there might be better way to invest the time / make 3k faster elsewhere. For 3K you can do one or two quick melds or craft in few minutes a bunch of mid-range products and take the RNG out of equation completely
His point is still valid, but there are faster more reliable ways of making 3k. Soome people just may not have access to or be aware of those methods for whatever reason.

Aside from catching plenty of Ash Tuna for Tuna Miq'abobs, I can't see much gain from trying for Marlins (Double Mooches are not the easiest feats to pull off unless you have a load of Perception materia on your gear).

With max gear/perception food and the right bait, I was catching a Marlin every 10 casts on average (counting the mooches).
Just about 3.5 minutes to catch one.
That's 50k per hour at a price of 3k. (They were selling for north of 5k on my server [85k per hour])

Not too shabby, however they sell SLOWWWW.
So it's definitely not something you can do every day.
And if there is more than one person farming them on your server, it'll take a week to get rid of one hour's catch.

Do you mind sharing these locations where u can guarantee peisteskin maps, I haven't come across such locations

Most popular spot seems to be North Shards in Mor Dhona, though I personally fish at Lake Tahtotl in North Shroud.

Straight from the 2.1 patch notes:
Timeworn Toadskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (South Umbral Isles and Rathefrost only)
Timeworn Boarskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Reaver Hide and the Tangle only)
Timeworn Peisteskin Map: Level 50 mature trees, lush vegetation patches, mineral deposits, rocky outcrops, and fishing holes (Lake Tahtotl, Parata's Peace, and the North Shards only).

The only issue I have with increasing the reliance on fishing as a crafting resource is the issue of not being able to reliably choose what I want to catch in the same manner as Botony and Mining. I'm not advocating they be the same of course. Though I think making a more reliable system would be advantageous. Maybe go by the bait level. Equip a 35 bait, catch a 35 fish if one is in that fishing hole. If not, then its random.

You can fish up specific fish reliably by choosing the bait and location. It is something u get a feel for with time and experience, however it of course isn't 100% specific, unlike other DOL classes.

Some fish do have 100% spots, or at least 50%, so it's not as terribly random. For example, Fullmoon Sardines can be caught with 100% rate at Umbral Isles with Iron Jig. Off the top of my head (because I farm them often), Razor Clams, Silver Sharks, and Hammerhead Sharks all have high catch rates as well.

The only downside compared to BTN or MIN is that you can't gather more than one fish at a time. Fortunately, any recipe requiring fish also usually doesn't require more than 1.

South Umbral Isles with a Spoon Worm is a 100% rate
