RESTORE: A unique appoarch to fix some of Eorzea's most discussed issues.

Small zones, lack of open world content, no crafting end game. These are some of the most talked about issues on the forums right now. The question is how do you fix them in a fun and interesting manner? A new game system called Restore.

It has been 5 years since Bahamut laid waste to Eorzea, yet Adventures aren't doing much in the rebuilding process. Why? Shouldn't we be the ones finding ruins, rebuilding the cities, discovery ancient secrets? That is the concept behind Restore.

The idea is simple. With every new patch, new sections of the world are added. But it isn't just available. No, each server has to unlock it. When a new areas are added, there is a "Life Bar" on trees, stone walls, mountain faces, etc. DoL are required to take daily quest and join in on DoL F.A.T.Es. When the bar reaches zero the area is open.

DoH is required to build structure like scaffolds and such to keep the "Life Bar" from going back up by also completing dailies and DoH F.A.T.Es.

Now let's talk rewards. Just like DoW/DoM, crafters will receive tokens which can be used to buy unique items for crafting. DoL/DoH Chocobo barding, unique materials to make unique gear, shards, and so on.

Now for a practical example on how Restore would work, let's take Amdapor Keep as an example. First the area to access the Keep would be blocked off. DoL/DoH would have to clear the land and open up the area. After which DoW/DoM would have the cleanse the land of monster and such before you could unlock AK.

Obviously this is a really rough idea right now but it's one that I believe MMO's are going to move toward. Where players feel like they are effecting the game world and making a difference in the living, breathing environment.

    To recap:
    • DoL/DoH clear the land to access new areas on the map
    • DoW/DoM would be required to protect the area that DoL/DoH is restoring.
    • DoL/DoH would have dailies and F.A.T.E with rewards based on tokens.
    • New dungeons and stuff are added to the game in this fashion instead of a simple quest to unlock it.

I remember doing something like this in Wow for one of the expansions, can't remember what it was called though.

It had a bad side effect though. The first world to open the new area had like a cajillion people transfer to it immediately. Then those people couldn't log in and had huge login ques.

AQ in original WoW? Crashed/lagged servers due to everyone being in Silithus.

The dailies in Quel'Danas where the area became bigger when enough quests were completed, or the call to arm to open the gates of AQ.

Well there would have to be a system in place that allows servers with low population to progress just as quickly as one that is full.

It would be neat, but then they'd finish and it would be all over. You need something more long term.

What they should do is make a seeded dungeon.

E.g. 100 different types of scenery. 100 different types of boss areas. 100 different texture schemes, etc etc. Then give it like 5 allowed boss areas then players make up seeds like

    [9,54,32],[4,12,19],[32,43,98],[76,45,67],[45,15,57]

And that would spawn a dungeon with 5 boss areas of X type (layout based on the seed), where each boss area has a different scheme, texture pack. Then their boss spawner algorithm picks a Boss Of X tier to put in each boss area, and random trashed based on which layouts were chosen.

E.g. We could experiment with the best seeds to get layouts with tons of trash for exp grinding, or the least trash for quick runs etc.

Someone would make a site, and eventually every possible seed combination would be on said site.

Also, forgot to add. Yoshi-P said they don't want crafting to feel required. This would make it required so you need something that adds reasons to craft while at the same time players could potentially ignore it if they wanted to.

FFXI had something similar to this, it also had crafting ones for people to craft. IIRC it was pretty terrible.
