Small zones, lack of open world content, no crafting end game. These are some of the most talked about issues on the forums right now. The question is how do you fix them in a fun and interesting manner? A new game system called Restore.
It has been 5 years since Bahamut laid waste to Eorzea, yet Adventures aren't doing much in the rebuilding process. Why? Shouldn't we be the ones finding ruins, rebuilding the cities, discovery ancient secrets? That is the concept behind Restore.
The idea is simple. With every new patch, new sections of the world are added. But it isn't just available. No, each server has to unlock it. When a new areas are added, there is a "Life Bar" on trees, stone walls, mountain faces, etc. DoL are required to take daily quest and join in on DoL F.A.T.Es. When the bar reaches zero the area is open.
DoH is required to build structure like scaffolds and such to keep the "Life Bar" from going back up by also completing dailies and DoH F.A.T.Es.
Now let's talk rewards. Just like DoW/DoM, crafters will receive tokens which can be used to buy unique items for crafting. DoL/DoH Chocobo barding, unique materials to make unique gear, shards, and so on.
Now for a practical example on how Restore would work, let's take Amdapor Keep as an example. First the area to access the Keep would be blocked off. DoL/DoH would have to clear the land and open up the area. After which DoW/DoM would have the cleanse the land of monster and such before you could unlock AK.
Obviously this is a really rough idea right now but it's one that I believe MMO's are going to move toward. Where players feel like they are effecting the game world and making a difference in the living, breathing environment.
To recap:
- DoL/DoH clear the land to access new areas on the map
- DoW/DoM would be required to protect the area that DoL/DoH is restoring.
- DoL/DoH would have dailies and F.A.T.E with rewards based on tokens.
- New dungeons and stuff are added to the game in this fashion instead of a simple quest to unlock it.
