I'm excited about the patch too, but I'm more excited to see where the game is at by the end of September on it's one year anniversary. Hopefully it's in the state it should have launched in and maybe we can see some new content early 2012. I'd be totally happy with that.
    ^ Yes. Most games don't fare too well in their first year. FFXIV by all means faring the worst in recent memory. Regardless, it's pretty absurd to expect massive content patches throughout the first 12 months of an MMO and I challenge anyone to refute this. Granted, we are nearing the 12 month mark and I would expect to see new content by then. In XI that I and so many others praise, that took the form of an expansion before it was even released in the US. This has already been said so many times before so yada yada yada...

    Just picture yourselves as the Japanese were in 02-03 when XI was broken and had no RotZ or CoP. Which means that all there was, was grinding, Nation Missions mixed with some NMs and BCNMs. No Sky, No Sea, No Khazam, No Lufaise Meadows, Xarcarbard etc. You had the basic zones from the three nations to Jeuno and they were probably just as empty as the three nations are now. IIRC Beastmen Strongholds didn't exist either and guess what's mentioned in the Letter X???

    Yet this very game is the one many of us praise and reference here on the forums. Remember that from humble beginnings great things can come. Patience determines who reaps the rewards.

    Go play Aion, Rift or Tera. By the time you get board FFXIV should be well on it's way. Or spend some time with family and friends before the crack attack starts XD

    **WoW major updates
    ** Aion major updates (Couldn't find anything but I can tell you over the course of nearly 2 years it has seen only 1 real content upgrade and that was regarded as an expansion)
    ** FFXI major updates (begins one year after Japan launch)

    Not quite. This is from another thread.

    In fact, here are all of FFXI's original pre-Zilart areas (Source):

    Cities/Towns (6):

    * Bastok
    * Jeuno
    * Mhaura
    * San d'Oria
    * Selbina
    * Windurst

    Zones (21):

    * Batallia Downs
    * Beaucedine Glacier
    * Behemoth's Dominion
    * Buburimu Peninsula
    * East Ronfaure
    * East Sarutabaruta
    * Jugner Forest
    * Konschtat Highlands
    * La Theine Plateau
    * Meriphataud Mountains
    * North Gustaberg
    * Pashhow Marshlands
    * Qufim Island
    * Rolanberry
    * Sauromugue Champaign
    * South Gustaberg
    * Tahrongi Canyon
    * Valkurm Dunes
    * West Ronfaure
    * West Sarutabaruta
    * Xarcabard

    Dungeons (28):

    * Altar Room
    * Beadeaux
    * Castle Oztroja
    * Castle Zvahl Baileys
    * Castle Zvahl Keep
    * Crawlers' Nest
    * Davoi
    * The Eldieme Necropolis
    * Inner Horutoto Ruins
    * Fei'Yin
    * Fort Ghelsba
    * Garlaige Citadel
    * Ghelsba Outpost
    * Giddeus
    * Gusgen Mines
    * Horlais Peak
    * King Ranperre's Tomb
    * Lower Delkfutt's Tower
    * Middle Delkfutt's Tower
    * Monastic Cavern
    * Ordelle's Caves
    * Outer Horutoto Ruins
    * Palborough Mines
    * Qulun Dome
    * Ranguemont Pass
    * Upper Delkfutt's Tower
    * Yughott Grotto
    * Zeruhn Mines

    What do we have in FFXIV?

    Cities/Towns (3):

    * Limsa Lominsa
    * Ul'dah
    * Gridania

    (I guess you could technically also count the hamlets, but they're pretty much empty atm)

    Zones (5):

    * La Noscea
    * Thanalan
    * The Black Shroud
    * Coerthas
    * Mor Dhona

    Dungeons (6):

    * Copperbell Mines
    * Nanawa Mines
    * The MunTuy Cellars
    * The TamTara Deepcroft
    * Mistbeard Cove
    * Cassiopeia Hollow

    Pre-Zilart was still miles better than what we've got in FFXIV. It's a pretty sad comparison, honestly.
    Partially true, but not totally.

    With all respect as I want to see this game succeed incredibly badly (right now bought the CE for absolutely nothing but broken dreams) ... I don't know whether to treat this topic as a joke or not...

    That's my answer within itself I guess...

    I stand corrected. And agree, partially true. XIV's zones are much, much larger so there is plenty of room to fill them out with content. I know I certainly don't want to go running from one end of Thanalan to the other. But there is a small lack of diversity. I am really curious about what kind of content was available for these zones way back then. If anyone has a source I'd love to check it out.

    In any case I have 0 expectations until it gets to 1.5 years. If it lacks the content XI had at that time then it may not fly.

    The question is, is the game doing better now?

    We'll see. So far I only saw some features being removed instead of being improved because it was easier.

    I can't say either way at this point, I have been majorly disappointed time after time, but I can only hope! ^_^ All I really want is a combat system that keeps me awake!

    If Yoshi-P does deliver in 1.18 with major UI changes, new Gridania, forest map, battle system and some naked Roegadyn... why so hard... galkas without tail! dancing naked with subligar.... then I will be like..

    Abolition of physical levels (maybe)
    2 (Two) Dungeons, 1 for r50 and 1 for r30, likely in the same zone (Toto-Rak.) Anyone expecting more is just setting themselves up for disappointment.
    Implementation of Quest Hubs, again, most likely very basic.
    New gear and new recipes.
    Small bug fixes, server stability fixes, MW stability fixes, yet another targeting fix, enmity algorithm adjustments, maybe some attribute adjustments, and maybe a surprise or two.

    Don't expect anything more than that. If we do get anything that's not in that list consider it a bonus. And no, I didn't forget to mention abolition of surplus. It was stated in letter X that it would be implemented following the battle system changes, likely at the end of summer.

    Jobs will most definitely NOT make an appearance in 1.18, and likely not until after Summer.
    This is pretty much what I think patch 1.18 will be except I think fatigue will hit the road and we'll get the job system. I don't know why they would release dungeons for the new job system if they only implement auto-attack.
