Agreed! Wearing my AF and completing the main scenario felt so damn epic, and then I didn't even have that set for a whole week before replacing it with Darklight. Now I'm excited about AF+1, but discouraged that Allagan drops will make it all useless. I really wish I had more time to wear these excellent sets of gear that the designers worked so hard on.

well getting to the level cap is easily done
the game content is easily beatable
a game designed like that will never have memorable set of gear that one person can really feel proud obtaining
you wouldn't even have enough time to be proud about it even if you wanted to because as you have mentioned you will be replacing it right away..

the current Allagan set is a place holder that just happen to be the top set for the time being. This is a vertical progression type of game so Allagan set will meet the same fate as the rest once the development team release the next better set. So again we will be back to obtaining Allagan set is nothing to be proud about because in short time you will be replacing it with that new set.

FYI, I know that but I was talking about it specifically because it was the one I got asked about :P

Me saying it's the top was a general statement and I realize what pieces are not sought as best and for what jobs but it wouldn't change anything about what I wanted to say so I didn't get into that because again the point is whatever set you have (the set that contain best item in every slot for your job) will be replaced shortly by the next best in slot items that will be released.

That the modern design of MMO's its either raise the lv cap and re balance classes or just add harder content and raise the gear lv (where as you won't need to re balance classes).
That's why they give you vanity so you can still wear your favorite set.

It really didn't matter what item you have in which slot to the point I was making so I didn't get into the details because it was beside the point
I was asked about Allagan gear so I used it but I really meant it for all gear and all sets (including the mixed sets) but thanks for your comments for the readers who might not know

What someone is, or isn't proud of obtaining is entirely subjective. Don't make blanket statements like that, it only shows how shallow your thinking is. One could say that finally obtaining their first set of artifact armor was a large milestone for them, thus placing importance on that gear. Vanity or not, it's up to the individual player how to feel about a piece or set of gear, and what reason they have to display it.

Whether or not it was "easy" and "not epic", obtaining my lvl 45-50 Paladin AF on my first 50 was pretty epic to me. I finally felt like I was the shield protecting the Scion's of the Seventh Dawn, a champion and a warrior of light that was rising up to protect my friends and smash the Garlean Empire's reign of terror in Eorzea.

So, just as the above poster said, please don't make blanket statements like that. You don't really get to speak for the entire population of the game.
