So, roughly, three stuns will work followed by two that miss? That's really useful to know. Have all my likes. What I've noticed from this fight while tanking/off-tanking as PLD is that after three stuns he'll resist for about 60 seconds. Which means two eruptions cycle will go through.
As an offtank (which only happens in duty finder as this can be solo tanked), PLD's are on stun duty. No one but the paladin should be stunning. The times that DPS "helped" with stuns it generally lead to more deaths, as I can generally shout out to the party which eruptions will go through or not.
I won't just say to "just dodge" eruptions as I've never played the fight as a dps or healer, but I will say that it's easier to manage if you count how many stuns have gone through (you'll hear the LB bar chime) and prepare to dodge after three stuns. Dodge two eruptions and continue to carry on.
Note: this is just what I observed from a week of farming Ifrit HM
I've seen it being done with all but one eruption successfully stunned before (after patch, I mean).
So it has to be possible, though I cannot offer any more constructive comment, since I've never tanked/melee'd it myself.
I must add that it was not the norm (I've only ever DF'd it)

I just ignore them, and we move.
So is it best to stun every other eruption now? Do you even need two tanks for this?
Don't see what the advantage would be.
Stun 1, Erupt 2, Stun 3, Erupt 4, Stun 5, Erupt 6 & 7 because of resist, reset. Four eruptions before every reset.
vs.
Stun 1, Stun 2, Stun 3, Erupt 4 & 5 because of resist, reset. Two eruptions before every reset.
No. Working out a reliable stun rotation and bringing an extra DPS is still better.
And let's be honest, the stun change was needed because the fight was just too easy and became too PLD reliant. With the changes, two WARs are viable and as most fights won't reach LB3 before nails due to lack of stuns, it becomes more challenging for the team to down the nails - but not impossible.
This is soo ridiculous its sad..people legit just think ''I'm not stunning fast enough'' in ifrit HM when I know I stunned the moment I saw eruption casting GODAMIT.I've seen it being done with all but one eruption successfully stunned before (after patch, I mean).
So it has to be possible, though I cannot offer any more constructive comment, since I've never tanked/melee'd it myself.

Yeah if one of the tanks do not stun i try to do so, only thing that takes a huge chunk of my health (being bard) is his move after the nails were the entire screen is lit (Hellfire i think)
I do not think eruptions are needed to be stunned everytime. And for nails, 2 words to solve those, blm lb. 3 bars and a black mage can wipe them all. The other day we had 3 blm's with us, it was great![]()
The diminishing returns on stuns are party wide, not per person. A paladin can still stun 3 Eruptions, but after that third one you're screwed for 60 seconds.Since resistance starts building DPS after ANY hit now, shouldn't all DPS who can stun help eye for the Multi-Eruption that may help new groups stun more carefully, instead of just relying on one person and him panicking and taking all the blame for a messed up stun -- he stunned plumes on accident!
Iunno. Just a thought.
Honestly not interrupting the triple eruptions is good practice for Ultima and Ifrit Ex. The single ones are worth interrupting to help with the LB bar.
To be fair, I've only seen it once, it made the smoothest fight I've ever seen on Ifrit HM.
As I said, not the norm, other times there always were more eruptions to dodge. I never blamed the tank for not being able to stun (be it because of missed stun o because of resistance); as far as I'm concerned, it's a bonus, not a requirement.
