Because we are playing a fantasy role playing game and people largely pick a gender because they like the aesthetics of that gender. You are denying people the ability to look like how they want to look, because genders are equal doesn't mean that expressions of gender are a bad thing. Simple: Allow the men to wear the same styles, and the women to wear the same styles.

So everyone gets a great range of styles, instead of having style A for X and style B for Y, you got style A and B for whoever wants it.
