I agree with the OP on every part.I have given this game the 6 months I said I would and now it is time to decide if I should waste my money on this game any longer. I played XI for years and I have played 1.0 to 2.0 and 2.0 has been nothing but utter disappointment. I have no idea what Yoshi is trying to make this game into but at this point I dont think he even knows what he should do.
I have seen a lot of players that I use to play with, as well as a lot of players in different ls and fc's report they are loseing players. These players are not logging in anymore and it seems to be a safe bet they have dropped their subs. This game has potential but can Yoshi and co unlock it before it is too late.
happened to about 12 people i use to play with in ls they all quit cause they dont have pride in this game anymore. i feel bad a couple irl friends just bought the game i dont see them lasting long either. they like challenge and story, ARR has neither
Would like to see this thread not get buried without at least a response or acknowledgement, as it's probably one of the better worded cases on some of the issues quite a few people have been voicing to the dev team.
You sir get a quote, my thoughts exactly. Crafting really seems to be there just because it was in 1.0. Technically the game could function perfectly without it. IT really needs some love lol.
Its a shame not seeing any comment yet from the dev team or reps. I hope the Japanese made a thread like this one....

SE doesnt care what anyone thinks now there in there comfort zone.
we had threads like this since beta in 1.0 then beta in 2.0 no one touched them but the fanboys saying everything was perfect and we dont need anything changed "go back too wow".
im all out of crysta now dont plan on buying anymore. login to grind dungeons then get locked out till reset is fail.

You make a lot of correct statements. I have to say I feel about the same. Even with the open world content. Once you do all the dungeons all the quests and get good end game gear on one class you realize that almost everything you have been doing is instances. After the story I feel the world becoming boring, and fates don't seem to make the world more interesting because I am not able to go to a place to find or fight what I want in my own convenience. I have to wait for the fate and this makes me not want to do the fate because from my experiences with doing fate quests it could take 30 min to an hour for the fate I want to spawn. In 1.0 I never felt this way, it might be because the world was bigger (because most of time you wanted to save anima so you walked to places) and there was a lot of open world NM and interesting places with lvl 70-90 monsters. This thread seems to have a fix for the armory system issue you brought up http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Economy-crisis.From reddit (credit goes to GrahamBelmont) very long

I made 3 big posts on reddit, closer to when this game was new and got downvoted into oblivion because everyone was "honeymooning." It seems like people are starting to come to their senses because a lot of things the "trolls" were saying at release are what everyone is saying now lol.
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen..._in_this_game/
- A thread on how TP in this game doesn't bring a SINGLE ounce of fun into this game.
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...pose_in_ffxiv/
- A thread on how crafting could be taken out of this game and no one would notice.
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...ame_by_design/
- A thead on how the skills in this game leave a lot on the table, (focuses on a PLD standpoint more than anything). Funny how nowadays everyone says PLD is just a 123 rotation bot.

I was thinking about this today. I have no idea what Yoshi's doing; everything's just so watered down and miss-matched.
1-50 and partially though End Game: It's like hopping around smushing Bunnies with a Mallet while whistling a catchy tune.
One step deeper into End Game: Suddenly "HARDCORE EXP ONLY! LET’S GET THIS DONE! DISBANDING AFTER 3RD WIPE FOR OUR SANITIES SAKE"
And seeing how there's no open world content or a sense of danger out there, there's nothing (exciting) to explore. *sigh* I recall mining in Ifrit's Cauldron way back when. Running around in my mining clothes, using sneak/invis pots, looking on in awe at the dangerous NMs that no one would fight. If I could have just skipped in there while decimating everything in my path while swinging my Pickaxe, I wouldn't even remember the zones name today.
So… I don't see myself re-subscribing after my times up. If they add actual decent content later on, I'll probably come back, but if it's more "EXTREME SIMON SAYS: YOU LAG YOU DIE! Edition" I'll continue to spend my time elsewhere.

People seem to be lamenting 1.0 and completely forgetting what a nightmare it was and why there were so few dedicated players that actually stuck around. While I agree with OP that there are issues with the game in it's current state, it is still a far cry from the mess people are lovingly comparing it to.
I am in agreement that there seems to be a clear lack of vision (unified or otherwise) and that aspects of the game are suffering because of it. I've avoided crafting in most MMOs since it is usually the weakest aspect in any game, tagged on simply because players expect it with no real goal to make it an integral part of the game. And that holds true with FFXIV atm as well, although it has been fleshed out far greater than other MMOs and should really be one of the games strengths. Instead we feel this hollow accomplishment, like we've done something great by maxing out a crafting class and it all feels worthwhile but just quickly fades into obscurity since nothing is required from them.
OP has very valid points and it would behoove the devs to pay attention and take this on board. No there doesn't seem to be any clear vision and the players are noticing in larger numbers that parts of the game don't meld together and others just feel tagged on. However, I have seen so much good come from the devs in the short time that the game has been operating and there have been some great advances that players have asked for, that I feel will continue to come. I don't fret for the game in it's current state and I don't lament 1.0, 2.0 has been a great start and 2.1 made some much needed changes. Now with a little constructive feedback, the devs can continue to improve and maybe find that unified vision.
