WAY Future, but worth a shot.

This is even if this class is installed. SAM (Samuari) and what we would have in store for this class addition to DPS.

What i would think would be a awesome addition to this game, is "Visually" and still damage wise, make use of what people would commonly know for SAM's, is a "Skill Chain" type DPS character. Not so much involving everyone in party, BUT still holding to there roots (FFXI). Meaning that SAM's make their own "Skill Chains" much like all other DPS classes have to do for they're damage. Meaning that 1 > 2 > 3 would somewhat reasonable what hard-core FFXI fans know, and entice the new crowd to love.

It would make the other dps classes feel somewhat boring.

If SE wanted skill chains, they should have implemented it already using all dps classes. When FFXIV came out, I could not believe they ignored weaponskills and skillchains. It really adds to teamplay.

BTW, in FFXI they intended SAM to be a tank (and NIN dps). So if they decide to bring SAM, don't be surprised it will be some kind of tank.

PS: there is like 100 'omgz bring SAM backz' threads

You would do well to remember the life line of our teams; tanks. Don't give them options and you'll slowly see less of them.

My idea for samurai was slightly different, be it DPS or tank. Using a standard combo like the DRG full thrust chain for example, a samurai would be allowed to augment the order they did them in to produce different effects. For example, again DRG chain, lets say they opened with vorpal thrust, then followed it by true thrust. That may produce a flash effect if tank, maybe a mild debuff if dps, lets say a poison effect. Then by finishing the combo with Full Thrust, the tank would get an emnity strike + mild AOE emnity (think flash with small dmg), a DPS might get a dmg +10% for 15-20sec on them since they finished it as well in an augmented order. Just personal thought.

SAM has no place as a pure DPS.

Samurai has to be support/off-tank. Maybe have a few HP per Damage skills (even though this is DRK area) or buffs, but a pure DPS? never. Samurai should have support skills similar to Bard but affecting especific roles like DPS buffs, Healer buffs and Tank buffs. And should have an off-tank solution, even maybe a mob tank solution for great number of enemies based on evasion and countering enemy attacks than mitigation.

I don't understand why a samurai can't be a pure dps? I think it would be nice if Sam were a burst type dps (much like BLM) except they use TP instead of MP.

Whether SAM turns out DPS, or tankish, I'm gonna hope and pray that its going to live up to my own personal hopes. SAM for me is going to be the one job I will cast off my WAR/MNK shackles I put myself in. Heres to hoping for the best when/if it comes out, and also that it does come out soon.

I would appreciate if they stayed true to this; Samurai are often depicted wearing traditional Japanese attire. Their weapon of choice is the katana, but are commonly able to equip shields and heavy armor as well. Samurai abilities vary from game to game, but their signature ability is Gil Toss, which allows them to damage their opponents by throwing money at them. They also have abilities that nullify attacks and can cripple enemies by lowering their stats.

    Samurai...shield? seriously...
a samurai fight following the way of the blade, indeed some was really good with bow, axe and spear, but them main weapon was a Katana (different type by the way)
use 2 weapon is a dishonor, flee is a dishonor, hide is a dishonor...
indeed from the game standing they can do whatever they want... but damn if they call them samurai let's them be samurai! it means a warrior that spend all him time and life to perfect him art to kill him opponent. indeed them purpose was to protect, but that wasn't protecting like a knight will have done it... they will protect them lord by sacrify them life while trying to kill the enemy.

in the old game, each time the samurai was more a ronin than a true samurai... a samurai follow a lot of rule... what a ronin don't do.

i also think that the skill chain system will be perfect for the samurai, giving him a more versatile and a very different play style than the other melee.
but if they do this, i hope they will throw out the position system, the skill chain is far more complet and will be more interesting that way.
