i think people just expect it to happen ":right away" so they think nothing is happening when they report and they are still there

also, just cuz they bot at one time doesnt mean all the time and they gotta be caught in the act usualy for something to happen

Remember the Salvage dupe glitch? Well, SE banned them 5 months after people started doing it. So it's always just a matter of time lul.

ya the more ppl in the exploit, the longer it takes. You got to watch them and eerything they do. Go through dozens of logs. Banning someone is a harsh punishment not taken lightly. Its kinda giving your character the death penatly. You want to be one of the "lucky" ones that was put to the chair, then find out you was innocent?

Wish they had in-game public executions to the banned. . .

    *The witch hunt begins...*

Realistically though, GMs or STFs or whomever is taking care of this would have to gather *unbiased* information first *aka gather their own proof*. If they just took the word of a random player and banned another player right there, we'd have a real witch hunt going on.

Reporting suspicious activities is fine, the GM's can look up logs and have the tools to deal with abusive players.

However, when people start making lists of other players they suspect, it's getting a bit bothersome. The more people who do it, the more common it will be for innocent players to get the evil eye, and it's inevitable that word will be getting around. The marked player would suddenly find him/herself locked out socially in a number of ways.

Gossip is terrible, but players acting police are worse.

It's nice that there is so much Anti-botting in this thread but does any1 else notice that they also seem to be stating that private servers are a no go and (now I might be mistaken on this next one) they aren't allowing skin mods, something that was and still is popular in FFXI for cpu players, sometimes you just want a blue scorp harness instead of a red one.

I can't see why these would be punishable offenses, altho I have never played in a private server I cant see the harm in playing around in one since its not like anything done in there will affect anything in the real servers.

Its kinda obvious when you see a player crafting in the same spot for more than 5 days, and they have a char right next to them with practically the same name, doing the same thing, and you search there common name on the loadstone and find 20+ chars with that name.

Goto Loadstone character search and Search "Bes" from Besaid to see what im talking about.
