Mittens. Like... really... mittens? No.

But I'd imagine that in order to get to CT, you need darklight anyway, right? Not to mention the ridiculous one-piece a week restriction. Or does CT work fine with entry level endgame gear?
In all seriousness though, I'm completely clueless as to how such an awful design could make it into the game, let alone as endgame armour.

Welcome to The Locker!!

For tanks at least, CT works fine with AF and DL accessories, maybe some dungeon drops. Even that's probably not required unless every tank is geared like that. The only time all the tanks are actually tanking is on (some of) the trash (and bone dragon, kind of). Just let the better-geared tanks do the heavy lifting while you DPS and click on your tower.
Skipping gear for vanity reasons... never.
If I only played solo, I'd consider it, but the "it's my monthly fee!" argument dies the moment my vanity makes life harder on 3-23 other people. They're paying their monthly fee too, and I doubt anyone wants their time wasted by an under-geared player who's too concerned about how they look.
That's not to say that some gear isn't unfortunate to look at, but you'll out-level lowbie gear fast enough to tolerate it, and all of the ilvl 90 gear looks fine, so any ugly gear is intermediary.

I actually like the heavy DL gear (and bought all three pieces), but I've never actually worn it. I started as a Dragoon and instead of buying his Relic +1 (I was sick of DPS and slow queues), I finished leveling my Warrior and bought the myth chest piece. I had full Hoplight already from playing my Dragoon so much. My Warrior did wear the leg/boot combo, but he never wore the chest piece. I then bought the DL chest piece because my Paladin was getting up there in levels, but I had unbelievably good luck in CT and my first three runs (3 weeks) awarded me the chest, gloves and boots. So, he'll never wear the DL set either.
I can see the argument for both sides. I want to enjoy the game and I can only do so if I enjoy seeing my character in action. Personally, I skipped over DL gear for two reasons: being unable to upgrade to higher ilvl gear without obtaining the two corresponding pieces and it looked terrible.
At the end of the day, the few extra stats from DL gear is not going to cause wipe or make a run any harder. The real difference maker is good play.

I skipped over any two-piece top, e.g. High Mythril Armor, Darklight Armor. For the legs, I've accepted I already have thunder thighs, but with Heavy Darklight/Darksteel Flanchards, mobile suit thunder thighs are nuts!
But yes, I've skipped over some gear if it was too ugly, except for spruce shoes. I kept those around too long. On Bard, I dislike the Ballad feet so much, I went out and purchased i70 Darklight feet.
