Yea i agree. It doesn't have to be an auction house per se but a counter top system because the MWs are doing nothing amazing for us really.
Or they could remove the physical representation and have the representative listed in a searchable menu that forces purchasers to see everything an individual is selling when someone is seeking to buy an item from them. IE
Search for Items.
Pick retainer with best price.
See retainers full inventory
Buy item.
Windowshop other items the retainer holds.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
I think everyone knows an auction house system is coming. I think everyone wants a more intuitive way to make market translations more quickly without taking up our main time of adventuring either. Whenever the auction house system arrives, it will no doubt become the main use of transactions when implemented and the current market ward system will more or less fall back to being secondary--an instanced area to place your bazaar than lagging up zones like in XI. Hints of an auction house already exists in XIV and within posts from development and production teams, so it's not like it will never arrive.
It's clear one of the core tenants behind building XIV this time around was designing ways to curb RMT from exploiting and taking over the player's market. Releasing and refining the market wards first allowed the player's to establish control over the economy. Sure, it was both risky, unintuitive and revolutionary for an MMO. But an auction house system first would have allowed RMT to exploit, inflate, and control the economy from the start.
It has been stated that the upcoming auction house system will work in conjunction with the market wards. So I can understand the challenge they are facing in figuring out ways to implement something that RMT will inevitably exploit with minimal impact on players. For example, players are complaining now that they have too much money. This is a better situation to be in than having RMT inflate and control a market that pressures players into buying their own currency so that players can pay for their inflated prices. This is their cycle of control that you feed into if an auction house system fails just as XI and most MMO's have. So I commend them on creatively experimenting new ways to allow player's economic control.
Players should be supporting and helping SE with ideas and ways to implement an auction house system that will minimize this damage than just demanding one to be rushed out.
Personally, I've not had an issue with the market ward system in its current state. Is it more intuitive than an auction house? No. But would I rather afford things in game than feeling pressured into the cycle of an RMT controlled economy? Yes.

I agree... I don't want an "Auction"
I don't want to bid on anything.. I just wanna buy it.... Everything I've ever bought on Ebay was buy it now... bidding is lame....
But yes, counter only would be fine

Well, I think most of us don't mind the Market Wards in theory. It's just the whole go through multiple, over-complicated menus (do most people even know what chirurgeon means?) to find an item, then have to mark it, go the appropriate ward, and then have to plow through tons of NPC's in order to get to the one you want the item from.I think everyone knows an auction house system is coming. If they just streamlined it a bit and removed the visible NPC's it would be perfectly fine, in my opinion. If the idea is that they want us to access each retainer's entire bazaar first, then they could just use Cairdeas' suggestion.
Player
market wards suck big fat hotdogs.
I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!
I completely agree. The current market wad system needs to become more quick and intuitive.Well, I think most of us don't mind the Market Wards in theory.
