Players for the most part know exactly what they want, and what they enjoy.. a big factor in a lot of the unhappiness after they get a feature they asked for is that they never asked for watered down features that was based on a feature they did like.

Case in point.. FATEs; The feature was in GW2 , and people liked that and they wanted SQE to make a better version of it for their game, but they did not improve it at all. What they gave us was a bland event system that reeks of being pushed out the door.
*No worthwhile scaling feature (Basing the difficulty of the next fate on how many people beat it the last time instead of how many are actively participating is bad design)
*Most fates are -very- unfriendly to groups less than eight. (This comes back to poor scaling)
*Very bland FATE objectives (You've all done the FATEs, you know what i'm talking about)
*The fact that they plastered FATEs everywhere (They're just scenery now, instead of something interesting that you want to take part in)

The player base just becomes too contradictory at this stage in development to truly consider their advice:

    PvP:
Make it more balanced vs make it more Strategic.
Make me hit harder vs Make me live longer

    Fates:
Make it more difficult vs Make it Solo-able
Make it more engaging with the world vs Don't effect me while I ignore it

    End Game:
Make it more Complicated vs Put it in Duty Finder
Make fights more Unique vs Balance class effectiveness
Make things more random vs RNG shouldn't cause wipes
Make it accessible vs Everything is completed too fast

    Open World:
Make it bigger vs Make it more detailed
Make it more dangerous vs Stop killing me while I travel
Let me solo it vs Make groups relevant

And then there is always the request for More, More, More, as if adding More to what exists wasn't on the list of things to do.

Gamers will always want to have the cake and eat it too.

Whether they listen to us or not, the Dev team will make changes that some players have asked for (it's all been asked for at this point...). Some people cheer, others scream with hate. But in the end, change within the game (good or bad) keeps things interesting and this is what helps retain the interest of us gamers.

    Greetings,

We value your input and discussion regarding FFXIV:ARR. I have just confirmed with the lead developers that we have no plans to read or incorporate any of your suggestions at this time. Thank you for your continued support.

The problem is the community is not intelligent in their requests. The crafting requests are not going to happen. They have repeatedly said crafting will never produce the BIS slot or have a viability as an endgame solution. They are not going to change the GCD. They will not make major changes to systems, unless those systems are blatantly broken.

They will accept constructive criticism, but doesn't mean they will do anything with it.

FFXIV should be in a different category. The game already went down the drain once and there won't be a 3rd chance. Every suggestion doesn't have to be implemented. But they should listen to their player base because we are the ones who pay the bills. If the game keeps going in the direction it is it might not be able to turn around. Lots of good games are coming out this year and ESO looks amazing, We'll just have wait it out. Don't want to be a doomsayer.....

Someone did suggest that SE should do Polls via Moogle Mail service in game and I think that would be a great way to get customer feedback.

There are 3 elephants in the room, all the rest of the stuff is negotiable, The Economy, Crafting/Gathering, Housing, so far they haven't listened to anyone about any of these three issues. Even with the housing protests which were large and coordinated over all countries, did they take a small step back. I kept the faith through the remake of this game and specifically subscribed with the intention of focusing on crafting/gathering making the battle system secondary. There is no longer any point to this and as the economy plummets making money has become a laborious process.

So for the first time since FFXI 11 years, FFXIV ver.1, FFXIV Alpha, beta 1,2,3,4, head start, until now, I have signed up for ESO and Wildstar beta. As much as I love this game when my sub runs out, if they haven't sorted out these major issues, I see no reason to subscribe any longer.

And yet, here we are my friend, playing that very game that wasn't on the roadmap. Sad really. Please look forward to it.. Am I right?

Not true. Virtually all the changes were to reverse the terrible reception of 1.0. Go back and look at reviews of it, it was an unmitigated disaster. The changes that happened before shut down were simply not enough, and were most likely started before the revamp was going to happen. Complain about it being a wow clone all you want, the numbers are all that matter. On the launch of ARR, the numbers were WAY more than they even hoped. So much that it put Square in the black, when it was in the red before. The changes were considered by players at large to be good, hence so many playing.

Oh please don't be absurd lol. The only reason FFXIV did so well is because at the time there was a huge influx of WoW players leaving WoW due to being bored. Don't believe me? Go look at WoW numbers right before ff re-release? FFXIV just happened to be in the right place in the right time considering there wasn't much else out there. People flocked to it like moth to a flame. But i will tell you... ask SE to publish their active numbers NOW and ill guarantee you'll see a different picture. And that will change drastically when ESO and Wildstar come out.

While ill say that the trip 1-50 with the story line was awesome, the rest has just become a complete utter grind (the highest with lockouts). And people are starting to wake up to that fact (aka the honeymoon effect is wearing off). The others and simply having fun because they are with friends.

Hey, im just sayin. I want this game to do good too, but lets not kid ourselves hmm?
