Most of mechanics are not rocket science if you are doing extreme modes you have already know the basic, maybe if you are a tank you should know when to swap the target or if dps what targets to ignore, I mean what since have to move away of a red zone or gigantic piece of ship falling above you?

but it's not the fault of the players the game hits you with 1-hit cheap kills out of nowhere without at least explaining what killed u , the fact you guys go to 3rd party sites to get information is just indicating lack of ingame explanation and tutorial , dont expect me to do go to youtubes etc. because the game doesnt provide the info directly

It's suppose to trial and error but the problem is that it doesn't work with this type of cheap phase after phase rotation type of end game content. If you want a decent attempt or maybe even a win in df, everyone needs to know at least the basics because there's not enough time or someone rage quits when the situation looks bleak. Fights like Ultima where you can recover fairly easy on the other hand can be beaten with new players.

I have no problem explaining the gist of a fight to players who are new but to those that don't speak up when I ask if its anyone's first time, aren't doing any favors for the group.

To watch or not to watch, that is the question.

Essentially, neither is wrong. What becomes a problem is trying to mix the two philosophies. Thankfully, the solution is already here in the form of Party Finder and Free Companies. In those you simple preset the expectations for whichever the group prefers.

When it comes to duty finder, unfortunately the expectation is going to be set by the average experience level of the masses. As time passes, and more people learn and become successful, he norm switches from "Let's all figure this out" to "Let's farm this and get loot." When the latter sets in, then the non-vid watchers must realize that they will be in the minority of the group and must be willing to suffer the consequences either way. Same for the vid-watchers.

So the solution again, is Party Finder. Please use it! ^_^

What makes you assume people who would like other players to put in just a little preperation are "present day gamers"? The first game I played was Pong, doesn't stop me being frustrated by people who refuse to help themselves and as a result drag a whole group down.

No one thinks it better. Its just a way to prepare yourself to make the segment smoother for everyone.

When you all got your Drivers licence did you practice on a simulator ? Did you watch a video ? Did you read a book about driving ? Or did you jump right in a car and start driving ?
