Well I would eventually want all the jobs in FFXI to return. Aside from those I would like Viking!
This. What I'd hope for though is a new class and its two respective jobs that could bring in fresh and more interesting mechanics to act as a gateway for the other classes/jobs to be improved upon at some future patch. I enjoy melee dps gameplay quite a bit, and the rest of the classes a fair to moderate amount as well (though BLM has dulled since the patch for me), but I can't help but feel that each of our playstyles should just be one of many options available to those jobs. The party also feels rarely entwined save for same-jobs setups (which are by default inferior due to Limit Build penalties), such as Dragon Kick/Storm's Eye upkeep and song exchanges. At very few points will a dps ever chose a certain move out of its fit to the party's battle situation. It's simply rotations, checks (this really needs to die in those 12 seconds), and windows (stun CDs and the free GCD per DoT rotation from that Skill Speed that you didn't even want).Disappointment.
The way the current classes and jobs have been set up doesn't give me a lot of hope for a cool implementation of future ones.
As it stands now, a Blue mage would probably end up being a monk with tank stances and a lore-based description that has almost nothing to do with how they play.
I'd like it if they could retcon some of the existing classes to such that each would match their lore better... And for them to make any new jobs completely diverge from existing ones.
But I don't think that'll happen. :-(
Personal largest wants: Ronin-->NIN/SAM. (Mostly because I feel that this could introduce entirely new mechanics and should fit a gameplay feel for mixed tanking/dps between that or Monk, Warrior, and Dragoon for Samurai and who knows what mixture if any for Ninja.)
I still don't think a perfectly rigid system of classes to 2 jobs each benefits anyone though. Especially if the was some customization allowed in this game, it really ought to just be you, what you've learned and how you plan, following in the path and general skill sets of whatever job you're pursuing. Elemental monks, non-elemental monks, chakra monks, w/e.
Another thing that kind of saddens me is that there was a sense of character even in being non-jobs before. Not much, but certainly a large potential. You got the sense that the Ishgardian cavalry probably had their own way of equipping their lancers, ability-wise, and the Wailers another. And that there was a definitely lore-centered mentality to those choices, and a different way of teamwork from it. That said, just add a small underlying system of punctures, breaks, draws, and knockbacks into the Tanaka system and you could have your Conjurer pulling a group of mobs into your Gladiator's Circle Slash and Howling Blade before a PGL Aura-pulses them out into an Archer's Arrow Helix; or have your Archer sight or distract openings that your Lancer punctures and your Pugilist finishes breaking through for armor bypass, etc. That said, that system had almost zero job-by-job uniqueness, but the customization of one's arsenal was fairly immense and could certainly have gone further if there had been mechanics to take advantage of it, especially as mentioned above and in AI diversification.

Every job from ff tactics!
Musketeer, Thief, Ninja and Samurai all seem like viable candidates.
I'm expecting each class to be able to fill two different rolls (like ACN gets to be a healer and DPS).
MRD = Melee DPS (Berserker)
GLA = Melee DPS (Dark Knight)
LNC = Tank (Knight)
PGL = Healer (Dancer)
ARC = Melee DPS (Thief)
THM = Tank (Red Mage tank...?)
CJR = Ranged DPS (Geomancer)
Something like that.

It will probably be Musketeer next. Go to the Marauder's guild in Limsa, the lower level is the Musketeer guild. They even have people target shooting. I love the pistol shoot animation.
I'd like to see Samurai, Ninja, and Thief. Only issue I see is that the trinity setup they put them self into limits what they can do.

Blue Mage, Dark knight, and Musketeer
Only things I expect now are the ones Yoshi-P mentioned he wants to get into the game which are...
Musketeer(his current priority due to what remains of the work done for this class from 1.0), Scout (advances into Ninja and/or Thief) and another Mage class (which Yoshi-P mentions Red Mage and Blue Mage)
