some good points in there. People wanna feel noob, and experiment and master fresh systems, I totally agree with that. So why than, should we ask for a system that we have already mastered? Skilchain/job ability/autoattack/magicburst, those were some great fights forsure, I think it's time to move on though. I've made a thousand skill-chains already, and magic busted a thousand more.

I personally can't wait to wrap my hands around the new battle system coming, and make countless, and hopefully hilarious, mistakes.

crazy exp chains though, now that is something I will never tire of

What I really want from FFXIV is it to become the FFXI of 2005-2008, where SC PTs were the shit. There were various camps for each level range and the party search/recruiting was easy for anyone that wanted to EXP. I leveled 7 jobs in FFXI and never got bored leveling them because I liked the fact you knew after you got a certain level that you were moving to the next camp. How many people would like FFXIV to be that FFXI and just have new mobs/zones/storylines/quests/jobs?

I think ultimately people want to go back to being a noob and being level 1 and starting something new. Games get boring even though expansions come out, you still know your playing the same game...I think I read something about the all mighty WoW losing subscribers. Not because the game sucks...probably because people want a new title/game to play and do it all over again. I can say with me playing FFXI, the best times were being a noob and not knowing things and figuring them out on the way or even someone passing by helping me for a couple minutes on some quest or item I needed(long sentence).

    Any thoughts?
100% agree but like it was said earlier you will get massive hate from ppl that didnt like the challenge that XI presented.

I figured some wouldn't agree with me. This is a gaming forum...it would be extremely rare to post something without a flame or some disgruntled gamer going berserk because he disagrees with someone. Just wanted to throw it out there, because a lot of people I've played with enjoyed the battle system. And I also don't think it would ruin the game to have a battle system most already know or could teach those who don't. The system wouldn't have to be the exact same thing but something similar with a few touch ups. New animations, effects over time, some SCs resulting in incapacitation of mobs, they're developers they can think of some new stuff.

You're right. FFXI > FFXIV currently.

This isn't the way it was supposed to be. We all wanted a new game but it still has to be Final Fantasy. It just doesn't have that feel as of yet.

I think that choice is fantastic. I am wary of FFXIV trying to copy FFXI in any direct way, but I would love to be able to relive that same feeling in those 2005-2008 exp grind parties. I don't think exp grind has to replace leves, just offer a stronger track of progress for more dedicated players. Once your leves are done who's to say that the harder core players could then go look for a grind party and the more casual players could log off or do crafting leves? I'm really anxious to see how the job system co-exists with the class system. I remember loving a well put together exp party in FFXI and loathing how rare they sometimes were when trying to level a melee class. Having one system fill in the other system's gaps seems very compelling to me. I hope that FFXIV always feels different, but at certain points recaptures the white knuckle thrill of FFXI's more challenging moments.

Good to see that the universe's balance is being kept in place. Shikyo, get a grip.

    Fixed that for ya.

Seriously, though, I played FFXI for four years, it holds a special place in my heart, but I never want to go back to a game whose backbone of leveling centers on a grind party.

This is happening because of the dungeon/raiding redesign they did with Cataclysm. Difficulty was tuned way up in comparison to Wrath of the Lich King. Boss fights are all about twitch mechanics. Stand in the fire for more than 2 seconds, and you're dead. Healers are tired of trying to keep groups from continually wiping, then getting yelled at for things that aren't their fault. Combine this with the fact that many dungeons are so long with so much trash, they now feel like tedious never-ending mini-raids. Too much stress, too little fun. They took a gamble in catering to the hardcores and lost. There are also other issues with the new Guild Advancement System killing many smaller guilds than had been together for years. Questing from 80-85 feeling disjointed, lackluster story, and everything feeling more grindy than ever before. No new neutral city and few new zones. Cataclysm felt like half an expansion and cost more than previous x-pacs. This is why it's losing subscribers.
